“Highs and Lows”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

Stayed here with wife and 2 kids for 3 nights as a stopover coming back from a holiday in Thailand. First appearances are excellent and when we arrived we found we had been upgraded from two adjoining rooms into the Royal Apartment in the main building which was the only guest room on the 10th (and top) floor (plus a couple of conference rooms). The apartment is incredible, absolutely massive and beautifully decorated (if dated as other reviewers have mentioned - bidet?). We had a huge panoramic living area, office space, dining room (for 10!), kitchen, toilet, twin room with massive en-suite and master bedroom with seating area and en-suite. Sq footage probably bigger than many houses!
The breakfast buffet is excellent and they have everything you could think of and the service generally in the Brasserie was very good. We had a bonus dinner option in the Brasserie which we used but mostly because we were tired and dinner was convenient. For fussy eaters or vegetarians the dinner buffet is poor and on one themed night we had to request a special vegetarian meal be provided (which they did no problem so again the staff try to help).
The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained but coming from Thailand we did find the pools a bit cold after while. We were not there long enough to explore all the activities and our children too young for the kids club so I can't comment on them.
What we did find was the service levels were excellent - we left our pushchair on the carousel at Dubai airport so contacted the Business Centre who tracked it down, took a copy of my passport and a signed letter and had a hotel car bring it back and deliver it to our room which was exceptional guest service (thanks Hazen!)
Only real downsides were a problem with our showers in the room where the hot water pressure rose or dropped suddenly causing hot or cold showers, as a result we had to bath our kids. We reported it and they immediately tried to fix it but with no success before we left. If we were there for longer it would've been a problem but a couple of days was okay. I also agree with other reviews that some of the outside events in the evening were a bit noisy and that the food and drink costs in the hotel and pool service were fairly ridiculous.
Would I go back to Dubai? Definitely, but I think for a longer family holiday I would look at the Atlantis or Jumeirah Beach as this hotel has a more corporate feel and needs updating. Great staff though!

Stayed three nights during a stopover in Dubai with our three-year old daughter. Our room was very nice, if not luxurious. My toddler loved the bidet and over sized tub. With one king bed and a roll-away for our daughter, it was a bit of squeeze to get out to the balcony, but we had a lovely view of the gulf and pools from the 5th floor. Housekeeping was excellent.

The hotel is right on the beach and the grounds are nicely kept. Kids love the koi, ducks, guinea hens and kittens. Currently, there is construction/landscaping work near the adults' pool and the children's outdoor play area is being completely renovated. Both areas are closed. There is a Bedouin tent set up in the beach access area adjacent to the hotel's private beach offering camel rides (50 AED negotiable). Unfortunately, we had unseasonably cool, rainy or windy weather during our stay, so the pools were too cold (19 - 20 deg C) for much swimming. My daughter preferred the splash pool (on the other side of the "infinity" edge) to the round children's pool nearest the entrance. We did splurge on a burger, hot dog, and sprite (75 AED total) at the pool before check out and it was worth it.

My daughter and I checked out the Penguin Club - an indoor play area for children, but until she turns four, she's too young to be left there. My daughter liked the gym room and play kitchen. The staff was very friendly and attempted to engage my daughter (who was just too shy and jet-lagged at the time). The area was very clean and tidy and suited for young children.

Pick up some groceries across the street at The Daily Gourmet, located in the Murjan (not Al Mujan in the hotel). It's located above the street level shops to the southwest of the hotel parking garage, directly across the street from the Ritz Carlton. Take the stairs or elevator to the plaza level and look for the grocery store. We cleared out some room in the minibar fridge and kept milk, yogurt, and cheese for our daughter to snack on during our stay. Also, you can easily walk to nearby restaurants for dinner. We tried Mom's (Lebanese) and Noodle Room - both were good for families and reasonably priced.

Our room package included the daily buffet breakfast at Brasserie. Saturday (2/2) was absolutely fantastic. Christian made the best cappuccino I've ever had (and I've been to Europe). Both the food, presentation and friendly service was excellent. Unfortunately, the next two days didn't compare as favorably and the staff had changed. The food was fine and the service was good, but nothing to rave about. I still recommend this breakfast option for families - lots of choices and many kid-friendly foods, including fresh fruit, fresh milk, juice, yogurt, smoothies, waffles and pancakes. Plus, it's convenient. Pay for breakfast when you reserve your room; otherwise it's too expensive.

The Metro is very efficient and affordable (purchase the red Nol card for single trips), but it's too far to walk to the Marina station with a toddler and it's not stroller friendly with all the construction mess. With older kids, the walk to the Metro would be no problem. We ended up taking a cab everywhere. Cab fare to/from the airport is 165 AED plus tip. If it's important to you that your child use a car seat, then I'd recommend renting a car. The roads are well maintained and signs are in English (as well as Arabic). We did use our car seat going to and from the airport, but not on our trips to the malls and Safa park.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 5th floor, which was non-smoking, but the 4th and 6th floors are smoking, so we cou...

Actually we are still staying in junior suite # 924.
The day of our departure we received a phone call from the hotel that, appearantly there was a problem with my Visa, which afterwards seemed to be a misunderstanding. My wife got lready nerveous hearing this...:-(
Ok, as a compensation there was a foc pick up at the airport, a service which was normally included into the booking, but not when booked via booking.com
....WHY making a difference when paying the same fare???
The internet in the room didn't work and it took them two days to settle it, although my job is a broker so I cannot function without wifi!!
In the Shades bar they promote HAPPY HOUR but only for a very limited list of drinks, which did not include ours! We felt sad about this.
Our junior suite was big but with old furniture, very small bathroom and no step-in shower. So a waste of time to get ready at the same time in morning and evening.
On Thursday and Friday's there is a lot of partying going on in the garden, even till 2 or 3 am in the morning. Very noisy in the room although ours was at the ninth floor.
Food and drinks at the outfoor swimming pools are low standard, very limited choice and utmost expensive. For sure no value for the money.
The garden is beautiful and spacious.
Personnel is friendly and service minded.

Paying 650 € a night is too expensive for what you get!
Being compensated with a poor red bottle of wine in the room is like a little tissue for bleeding.

But we make the best out of it and remain positive and honest.

You can do better guys!!

I stayed here for the first time on a family vacation fifteen years ago, and was delighted to finally return last week on a business trip. Maybe there are glitzier, more modern hotels in Dubai these days, but for me the Meridien offers everything you could wish for, and is right on the beach. Clean, comfortable rooms, and stand-out service from a friendly and helpful staff. I was upgraded to a suite the size of an apartment. Breakfast (the only meal I was able to take during my stay) was from a wide selection, and was taken outside, which was a little fresh at 6.30 on a March morning but was a great way to start the day. My only minor gripe? Depending on what time your flight arrives and the degree of jet lag, choices of something to eat (other than too service) are a little limited between 10.30 and noon. A final thought is that this hotel manages to cater both for its vacationing guests and for those here on business without either getting in each others way. Better than most - and many hotels could learn a thing or two.

Room Tip: Suites (at either end of the main block) are well worth trading up for.

Upon arrival at Le Royal Meridien we were upgraded to a club room, our suite was huge and beautifully decorated, including a lounge, bedroom with king size bed and an enormous bathroom.

You really couldnt ask for more in terms of service, each day we were left with a wine list and asked to choose our wine for the evening, when we returned to our room in the afternoon our wine would be waiting, along with a selection of apertifs. Before dinner we were invited to the club room where we were offered unlimited drinks (champagne included) and a hot buffet was on offer.
The food was fantastic, especially the italian restaurant.

Pools and grounds were beautifully maintained. Location is perfect, when we return to Dubai I wouldnt stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Try for a club room upgrade

It is rare for us to go back to a hotel, but when we were returning to Dubai we didn't really consider staying anywhere else. The staff are very good, particularly in the restaurants and poolside. The food choices are excellent and the beach location is perfect.
You can walk to the metro to explore all of Dubai, although it is tempting to stay by the pool.
If was to be critical then the front desk team were a bit slow at times. We arrived early and hat a long wait for a room to become available. Fair enough, we were asked whether we wanted to have breakfast, which we did, but were still charged the 220dh a head for some cereal and coffee (just be careful with the food prices!).
I would still go back again and am happy recommending it to other people here.

Room Tip: You definitely want a sea view room for the evening sunsets on your balcony,
