“Not a good JW Marriott”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

I've stayed here three or four times and have always run into one problem or the other -- airport pickup doesn't show, noise from construction in the hotel, room not clean upon check-in, room service brings wrong order, etc. The location is also not very good -- not close enough to the airport for a quick layover and not close enough to anything else to make much sense.

This is quite an average Marriott – not the best and definitely not up to the standard of other Dubai hotels. But by international standards it is perfectly good.

The common areas are well presented, there are a number of drinking areas and the restaurants appear to be good.

The breakfast is of high standard with many international dishes including Indian and Continental.

The bathrooms are large, and the bath/shower/toilet area is separate from the basin and dressing area, where the wardrobe is located. There is an ironing board, iron and safe also present.

The rooms are also well sized, with large modern flat screen LED TVs. The rooms were in a fair state of repair, not new but not immediately requiring refurb, but the carpets were quite worn. The bed was not the worst but not as comfortable as the best.

As always in hot countries, the AC took some fiddling to get it right for a comfortable sleep.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient.

For a business trip this is perfectly good.

This JW Marriott is NOT like any found in the states. Instead of an awesome, great resort property, with a lot of fun activities, this is a typical old city hotel that is in dire need of renovation.
The carpeting is old and crusty, as is the furniture. I think that the rooms DO have flat panel TVs now...only a year or so ago they still had the old "round screen" TVs. Everything is VERY shiny. If it's not metal, it's plastic made to look like shiny metal. The bathrooms are big and nice....probably the best thing about the hotel....oh, and the service is good...the people working are very attentive and helpful. I do not think this hotel is worth the price. Find something cheaper, or newer and better. There is a mall connected to the property, but not much else around. It is across the street from the airport, but not near the passenger terminal.
The bedding is also nice....service, bedding and bathrooms are the highlights..and the breakfast is nice....a good selection.
Also, there is ONE!!! outlet per room, situated at the desk. I always work on the bed, so I have to move the TV furniture out of the way and unplug something behind the TV, and then stretch my power cable across the hotel room to reach my laptop. Almost every other nice hotel we stay in has multiple power outlets, in convenient locations around the room.

Room Tip: Find a room in another hotel.

I stayed here recently overnight between flights and booked the property due to its 5-star rating and the convenient location near the airport. Being a general fan of JW Marriott-flagged properties I thought this would live up to the brand standards.

I will say this - the staff are excellent and the bathrooms are wonderful. Everything else about this property was a disappointment. Chiefly:

1) Air conditioning in the room not working properly; the room was uncomfortably warm even after attempting to lower the temperature

2) Dirty, torn and stained carpet, furniture in the room; it feels like they might be in the midst of a remodel, and if not - they really need to consider investing in one

3) Location; it actually is very near to the airport, but the general location of the hotel is not great unless you like the shopping center attached to it. It has no good views that I saw. My room had an internal view of the atrium. Not a big deal for an overnight stay but I would not want to spend more than one night here.

It is not that this is a bad property, per se, although the room and furnishings were VERY dated. I just know that there are so many other superior options in Dubai. Skip this one for now.

I travel frequently and stay in hotels all over the world. So I’ve seen lots of hotels and services to compare to, and I can easily say that this hotel was a disappointment.
When making the reservations, we stressed that there will be 4 people (with their luggage of course) for airport pickup and we specifically asked for a van and got confirmation via email. We get there to find that they sent us one small car! They eventually resolved that by hiring a taxi to take our luggage in another separate car.
Disappointments didn’t end there. As I got to my room, there was no coffee maker/ tea service in the room at all. I go to their website to double check (internet isn’t free by the way), and I see that they claim that the room has coffee maker/ tea service and it is listed under Guest Room Information in the General Room Amities section. When I called them to tell them about that, they said that they don’t provide it.
As far as the room goes, there were stains on the carpet. The sun didn’t enter the room so the room was dark. Although the room had a balcony, it was locked, so you couldn’t open not even a small vent to ventilate the room. Again I asked and they said they couldn’t unlock the door!
I felt imprisoned in that hotel, couldn’t wait to leave. It was very uncomfortable and inconvenient.

Unfortunately I don't have too many good things to say about this hotel. It's certainly sub-standard for the price and claimed stars. Here my findings from 2 separate stays:
- Do not stay in any room (no matter which floor) that end in the sixties. Those rooms are too close to a restaurant/bar that blasts music until 3AM, and your bed will shake in the rhythm of the bass - very annyoing and trying to arrange for a different room in the morning hours is a pain.
- The internet connections drop constantly. This is not even the wireless network, it's the LAN cable. In my instance I had to login to my company VPN client repeatedly and lost work due to saving issues as well. In addition they still charge $30 for internet access for a single day.
- While the reception area of the hotel looks great, the rooms are generally speaking outdated. The bath rooms have mold in the shower area
- My bath room was also not cleaned very well, I found long black hair, when I have short blond hair
- Beds are too soft and when you take off the blanket, you can see the actual (and significant) sag of the bed

I would not recommend a stay in this hotel. There must be better options in Dubai.

Room Tip: do not take a room in ending in anything in the sixties, or you'll stay up all night long
