Spent 2 nights stopover at this hotel. It is an older property - are there any old buildings in Dubai? - formerley the Intercontinental according to my cousin. However, it is a very good 4 star hotel. Rooms are a good size and comfortable. We enjoyed the choice of restaurants available in the hotel. The breakfast restaurant was excellent and service good. The Persian "Sabestan" restaurant provided a very good taste of fine Middle Eastern food.
The location across the busy road from the Creek is ideal for those interested in the traditional ways of Dubai traders. The wharves are a varied mixture of local shipping still mainly wooden dhows. Further down the wharf off to the right are the Spice and Gold souks all within comfortable walking distance except perhaps in the summer heat.
The traditional ferry ride across the creek to the original village area in what were sand dunes is along the creek to.
Booking online direct with the hotel we got a very good price for the room based on all factors.

Yes this is a 5 star hotel, but this was true several years ago too, this is shown in the decor of the rooms, but this is where it ends. It is on the creek, the shuttle boats go from close by and the different districts are within walking distance of the place. The pool is outside on the first floor and is rather nice (though chairs are limited near by so get there early). Staff were friendly to us and made sure our car was safely parked and looked after. The hotel has some shops inside including a cake one where a nice breakfast can be had. Several restaurants around the area and getting a cab is not hard. I do acknowledge that reading other reviews the prices are high for what you get but this is a case of paying for location too. Yes you can get cheaper hotels of same quality in other districts but think I prefer to stay here. It is clean. It is central. It has a pool.

This was our second visit to the hotel in Dubai. It needs a major upgrade. Had to wait to check-in as room was not ready.
Also during check - in if I remember the correctly the Receptionist's name was Moustafa was extremely rude and unfriendly, when enquired about the hotel he would reply in one word answers, got the feel that the staff were only interested in clients who would tip them big.
The first interaction with an employee was bad enough to spoil my whole stay at the property.
Would suggest LQA assistance and upgrade in H.R so they stop hiring unprofessional employees.

whilst on the entrance it tells you it was the first 5 star hotel to open in dubai it is perfectly placed to see the real dubai ,right outside the hotel is the local docks where wooden boats continually load and unload goods of all kind ,during the evening the space of grass comes alive with locals dancing ,playing badminton ,doing Asian thai chi or something of that sort. from here you can take a ride on one of the small creek boats that will take to the other side where the old original dubai buildings now create the museum ,from the same side as the hotel itself is gold souk .The famous market, beyond this is a fish market. behind the hotel is a metro underground 500yds away to access dubai plus a small shopping mall with most things you could need ,the hotel is comfortable and the staff were fantastic from boys and girls on breakfast to the best bar hostess in the city ,you'll find her in marbles and after a short while she will know your drink and your name .

Room Tip: double beds are massive, singles i found myself falling out almost .lol have not commented on spa a...

We waited 2 hours to check in. The staff were only concerned about tips and we were given a broken cot for my son when we asked for a replacement we were told that the cot was not broken and it was just that we couldnt open the cot up properly. Eventually the staff realized that the cot was broken. Our £10 phone top up credit went missing. And reception staff were absolutely rude about it. We were given a room with a broken door and we asked to have it fixed we were again told that the door was fine until we had to show the guy that the door would stick when trying to open it. We were offered to change our room if we were willing to pay extra. Absolute ridiculous stay there are no airport transfers considering we paid over £3000 for our stay. We wont be staying here again.

Overlooking at the Deira Creek, this is I believe is one of the oldest 5-Star hotels in Dubai that was renovated to what it is now, which is in excellent condition. It was three times more expensive 3 - 4 years ago during the booming days of Dubai but now it is a lot cheaper and affordable. The rooms are pretty spacious, the free WI-FI all around the hotel is pretty fast, the gym has also a racket ball court and there is a tennis court as well. The pool side has a lot of sun-beds with a bar where you could have a beer before 6 (The other bars and restaurants don't serve alcohol before 6 PM).
Once you walk into the bars and restaurants, the drinks are ridiculously too expensive but that is Dubai and it is the same everywhere! The English Pub on the 1st floor of the Shopping Arcade serves good beer and food. Yeah, the pub food is excellent and in fact I almost always dined in the pub every time I stayed in this hotel.
The location is controversial. It is walking distance (NOT IN SUMMER!) from the Deira Souk where you get the best deals for electronics and gold. However, the night life and the beaches in general are across the other side of the creek. Then again, $ 20 - 25 will take you to the farthest distance in Dubai, so it really does not matter.

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool/creek side are much nicer.

I stayed at this property for 8 nights whilst in Dubai for a conference. Whilst it is starting to show its age and is no where near as luxurious as many of the more talked about Dubai hotels, its location is great and the staff are absolutely excellent. Ready to help at any time and always with a friendly smile, all in all it was an excellent stay.
Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good value central hotel with great access to public transport
