The experience is divided into 2 distinct parts- dune bashing and desert camp with belly dance . While the second half is a pure tourist trap the first half is fantastic with disorienting dives through the dunes- and feeling the desert sand for the first time is incredible- a must do in Dubai.

4x4 Dubai Desert Safari
I strongly recommend this trip as it was fun, fun, fun and I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
Besides the exhilarating drive through the sand dunes you get to watch a great sunset, ride camels, do sand-boarding, smoke shisha, sample some Arabic coffee, take photos with a blindfolded falcon, try out a henna tattoo or two, eat a decent dinner with BBQ chicken, lamb and beef, and watch belly and dervish dance performances.
It was an entertaining and delightful evening.

185 AED per person for shared option for evening desert safari that included below and my feedback next to it.

Drive through the desert along Dubai-Hatta road - Yes a smooth drive
30-45 minutes dunes bashing - it was 25-30mins (but was good)
Sun Set Photography - Yes but you have to pay for the photos i.e. 50AED per photo
Camel Ride - disappointed. It was merely a round 50m ride
Belly Dance show (NOT DURING RAMADAN) - Yes
Tanura Dance show - yes
Henna Painting - yes
Hubbllee Bubblee (shisha) - you have to share it with others
Arabic Coffee (gahwa) and Fresh Dates - this was good
Traditional costumes - yes
Unlimited soft drinks, tea coffee and mineral water - great because it was really hot and they were providing ice cold fanta, coke and water etc.
Buffet Dinner and B.B.Q.(vegetarian food also available on request) - plenty of food was available but BBQ was a disappointment (it was cold).

They driver didn't say a word throughout our journey not explaining where we are going or where we are stopping and why! Could be a bit more fun if driver had communicated more with us.

But the trip and desert and the camp was very nice.

We had so much fun. We weren't going to do a safari but changed our mind on our last day. This is a must, must do when in Dubai! The convoy of about 20 4 wheel drives to the middle of nowhere was mysterious, exotic and thrilling at the same time. The drives down the dunes was like synchronised swimming but with 4 wheel drives. We had soooo much fun and took amazing photos. We then drove to an outdoor camp where we rode camels, had beautiful henna tattooed on our hands, and were entertained by a belly dancer. This was the last night of a 3 week holiday with friends, and the experience was priceless. And memorable for our last night!
