We have been a couple of times to Hakkasan, both in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Actually, more than a couple of times. Hakkasan was by far our favourite in Abu Dhabi, so when they opened in Dubai at the same times that we moved there, they had a lot to live up to.
Live up to it they have. We have been numerous times, the last being yesterday. From reserving a table to staff in the restaurant and bar, they are always friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. We started the evening as usual at the bar, which has an excellent atmosphere. The Asian Martini (made specially, and not on the menu) was just right. The Manhattan dry was created to perfection, you could really taste all the flavours. As usual, the Strawberry and Ginger Bellini was the best you can get in Dubai, and boy, I’ve tried a few!
I have to eat gluten-free, and there is a separate menu for this, which is just bliss. There is a good selection, which you don’t always get for gluten-free, and the food tastes no different to the rest of the menu. My favourites are the Lettuce Wraps, and the Spicy Prawns. My non-gluten-free husband likes the Crab and Sweetcorn soup, and the Mongolian Venison. The menu is vast and its all great – we have four vegetable dishes, and because it’s so good, always finish them all! There is no pressure on you to finish your food quickly, the waiting staff are polite, responsive and well-informed, and the managers genuinely concerned that you are enjoying yourself. The ambience is Modern Chinese, and the music is mixed there and then, and is great.
If you want a good weekend meal out, this is the place to go: we always take friends and family when they are in town, and without fail, they love it too.
