Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I recently got married and wanted to experience Dubai for the first time. We checked into Melia hotel a few days ago and it's been an awesome experience all the way. Very polite and friendly staff, great food at the restaurant and very clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished rooms. I'd definitely love to stay here when next I come to Dubai.

This hotel is no where near 5 star. At best they can claim to be 3.5 star. If you have experienced 5 Star hotels (like Fairmont or Hyatt), you can see my point. I had much better experience in 3-4 star hotels in North America.
We were there for 13 nights, and it was awful. The first night, the door wouldn’t open because the floor was bulked up. We did not notice the reason until couple of nights after when the shower drain was clogged and water was all over the place. We complained and group of people came to fix it, no offer of changing the room. Then another couple of nights after the first time, it happened again and although they promised to change our room nothing happened. And obviously it was happening before as it was clear from the floor condition.
Also, please note that you might get a non-smoking room, but if your neighbor is smoker you are smoking while you are entering your room. And remember they don’t separate people based on this and they don’t care about your complaint.
Further, if you want to have breakfast in this hotel, remember to wakeup relatively early otherwise you will end up with the half warm, end of the barrel food. Although they should be open until 11, they start collecting the food from 10:45 so they force you out by not having anything to eat.
Lastly, the elevators don’t have ventilation and they sometime spray some aroma in there but that wouldn’t do the trick. The location is in the middle of low rise middle income housing, and it is not near anything. So, you will need a car for sure.
Anyways, if you want to go there after all the above, don’t stay in 325 or any neighboring suites. Also refrain from staying in any room near elevator side because the “ding” sound from elevator will be problematic. And remember people who book through travel sites have lower priority than the others.

We were upgraded to a junior suite as they had no rooms available with two beds and we were two ladies traveling together. The junior suite had a king bed and they brought a roll-in bed in for the second person so it worked out fairly well. There are no drawers for clothing...but shelves in the closet which is located near the door...far from the bedroom. Light switches are controlled from the bedroom only...bathroom has a barrel shaped sink but no space to speak of to store toiletries. The room was very nice....but just not configured well for convenience. Staff was very good, kind and helpful. Buffet breakfast very good but when occupancy was high they had a hard time keeping up with re-stocking.

The location of the hotel is next to a graveyard with an underground entrance, very unusual for a Dubai hotel!!! They claim to be having five stars, however, the service was far below the five star standard. Attitude of staff was a desaster, no managers were there to assist during busy breakfast time, only one bold gentleman, that mentioned he would be in charge of the F&B department. I can only say, I have never seen anyone as unprofessional as this one! Absolutely not friendly neither helpful, we asked for butter and he said that sorry, you have to clear the table now as other customers are waiting.....not even a little bit of politness from this guy!
Housekeeping was always late to clean up the room. Staff at the reception were not smiling. the hotel has a nice design, but the staff there, is extremely unmotivated. When I asked for a manager, nobody assisted me! I can surely not recommend this hotel, as Dubai is a service city and you can find many more hotels that have a service by far better than this one!

We have just returned from about 10 days on the Arabian Peninsula, the last three of which we spent in the Melia Dubai Hotel. We arrived when the hotel was in the midst of a technology hiccup, but the management bent over backwards to minimize the small inconvenience. That concern for customer service evidenced itself throughout our stay. We were treated kindly and helpfully by everyone on the staff, from the front door to the reception desk and the restaurant. We have nothing but great things to say about the staff of this hotel.

The hotel itself is lovely, with a cool, subdued avant garde feel. The guest rooms are beautiful, comfortable and spotless. The rainfall shower was a great way to begin or end the day.

I loved the location of the hotel, which is away from the more Las Vegas-like sections of Dubai. Another reviewer mentioned having moved to the Atlantis Hotel, which is at the end of the Palm. I'd kill myself before I stayed in an over-the-top, massive, touristy hotel like that, so Melia Dubai was perfect for me. It is in Bur Dubai, a 10 or 15 minute walk away from a Metro station and an easy cab ride to anywhere in the city. It is also a very pleasant walk away from the historic Al Bastakiya section of Dubai, as well as Dubai Creek and all of its attractions. It was great to be in a part of Dubai that has not yet been turned into a mall.

We only ate in the restaurant in the morning, but breakfasts were great, with a variety of offerings to suit both European and North American tastes. The omelet chef, in particular, was fantastic.

We had a great time during our three days in the hotel and would come back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Burj Khalifa. Spectacular view!

Location
Not very central but only short taxi ride from anywhere and taxis are cheap.

Comfort
Very comfortable room though a bit worn and grubby round the edges. Very comfy bed. The bath was lovely and big but leaked all over the floor when used.

Staff
Very helpful and friendly.

Pool
Really nice rooftop pool. Very helpful lifeguard. Slow drinks service though

Food
Lovely buffet breakfast included. Restaurants were expensive but par for the course in hotels

We have just returned from an amazing holiday at the Melia hotel in Dubai. This holiday was for my 50th birthday. The hotel is stunning and our bedroom was sheer luxury. On arriving I was wished a happy birthday and a cake had been left in our room. All of the staff were most attentative with the concierge giving us advice when booking our trips, we were always greated with a smile and welcomed back to the hotel. The swimming pool has amazing views, with superb outdoor furniture. We really appreciated the free shuttle bus to the beach. Taxis were very cheap and the hotel sorted out all our travel requirements. We will definately be returning.
