It can easily be said that Dubai with all its modern provisions is still figuring its way around common man's problems. Transportation within Dubai is pretty good however the factors of time and cost are not really addressed. No bus, taxi or private car can guarantee you any sane ETA thanks to the hellacious traffic and accidents at peaks and off-peak times.
Enter the Metro. Easily Dubai's best project which actually touches the lives of its masses - the common people. It's the only mode of transport that is usually with known ETAs that dont keep you guessing. Though its a limited stretch for an ever expanding city, its still the best form of daily transport. With good rules, fares and security checks in place this mode of transport is everyone's favourite including tourists!
Its slow speed is definitely a deliberate as are proper/lack of direct access from Terminal 1 and 2 of the airport. This seems to be another deliberate to give Terminal 3 exclusivity and ease of access with a direct metro terminal there.
The convenience of getting a travel ticket by various means (counter, machine etc) and topping your regular cards up is very laudable and appreciated.
It's worth a ride however long if you don't mind the rush hour office crowd.
