The Dubai metro operates automated driverless trains in two lines across the city. Take care in picking your ticket--see if your trip goes through one or more zones--and if you are male, be careful not to get on the car for women and children only. We enjoyed using the metro to get around Dubai

Took metro or actually train as this operates on ground from Mall of Emirates to Dubai Mall. Efficient way to go to airport.

The metro makes it very easy to navigate Dubai. The bonus is that the trains run often and can connect you to anyplace in the city. We didn't use taxis at all during our week-long visit. It costs about 3AED per ride and you can buy a pass for multiple rides and multiple zones. The cars are very clean and the women only cars are great. We rode once in the regular car during rush hour and it was extremely crowded. Use the women and children cars if you can. Just know you can be fined for eating, drinking, chewing gum or sleeping. I didn't see anyone actually get fined but the rules are posted. But I guess that's how they keep everything so clean.

Although quite limited in range the Dubai Metro takes you to some of the top attractions, such as the Dubai Mall, and it now has a link to a tram system which in itself links to the Palm monorail (for Atlantis) you can also get to the airport on it as long as you avoid taking more than two bags, and avoid busy times. The only downside is those busy times when it can be like sardines jammed into a can. In fact, you can't get on the train at times! That said, I'd still take it over the expensive and slightly manic taxi ride.
