Not that exciting but worth a one way trip as you are fairly high above the palm. Will be much better when it links to the metro system.

As has been said be careful of the taxis the ones you are directed to are private ones and charge a lot more. Walk outside and hail one with the signs on top. Will save yourself plenty

The Palm Island is a beautiful planned community. Plenty of hotels/resorts along the outer ring. There is a mall under construction. Along the center "trunk" of the Palm Island, are numberous apartments/condos. There is a nice running/walking trail. There are single family homes with a small beach front along the "branhces" of the Palm Island. The Atlantis Water Park and Resort is at the far end of the Island. You can get a close up look at the Island via the monorail - costs about AED 50 roundtrip. However, the best views are from high rises near by.

Tip 1: This is more of a ride for kids than couples or solo travellers. It is not as magnificient as one thought. Some of the areas on the palms Island was not fully developed. You could see cranes and tanks sitting on the island waiting to be used by the construction companies.

Tip 2: It is actually quite expensive to spend 130 dirham return to and from the start/end of the Palms Island. I will not recommend anyone to take it the ride unless you really want to see whats going on in that island.

Tip 3: Best thing about the ride? You get to see the best sunset on the monorail. The sun sets around the Atlantis Hotel direction and i have to say it is a very good experience viewing it in the monorail. But at the same time i also feel that i can get to see the sunset from anywhere in Dubai but it won't be that beautiful compare to seeing it from the monorail direction facing the Atlantis Hotel.

Tip 4: Prepare you camera beforehand because it gets very crowded when all the tourists start taking photos of the palms.

Tip 5: Taking the monorail once is good enough. Will not do it again. The experience is not extremely magnificient, its just so-so.

Took a minute to explain to the taxi driver to take us to the monorail station. Google map show the station as Gateway Tower. But the driver does not understand. After describing what I wanted to do i.e. to take the monoral to Atlantis Hotel, he said the monorail station is known at Palm Monorail.

AED24 return fare pp. Everyone seems to know that the first carriage give the best view so many people seems to dive to get get the seats.

When arrive at Atlantis hotel, all passengers must leave the train. We took a walk outside the station and into the Atlantis hotel.

We then took the monorail back to the station we started. As some reviewers pointed out, taking a taxi from the station can be difficult. It is operated by a private taxi company and it cost more. We were fortunate to see a standard taxi there and we took to Mall of the Emirates.

On a day visit time Dubai we decided to take the monorail up the palm to the Atlantis. It was 25dirhams for a return ticket. The train is fully automated i.e. no driver and there are 4 stops along the route, although the middle two are not yet in use. The stations were quite new and clean. The journey takes about 10 minutes each way and there are great views of the city, the palm and the Atlantis resort. You can also see the burj al Arab through the haze. All in all a good view but not much else
