Owner description: Quench your thirst at our lavish hideaway on top of the world. Soaring 200 metres above sea level, we do things differently on the 27th floor. From modern day classics to innovative cocktails, our master mixologists go to great lengths to seek out inspiration, drawing influence from the most unexpected places. The result is an eclectic drinks list that uses unique ingredients and inventive methods to create your cocktail, with each recipe closely guarded to ensure our menu is one of a kind. The views are no less exclusive; catch your reflection in the glittering lights of the Dubai skyline as you gaze out through floor to ceiling windows that surround the bar. The space inside Skyview has been designed for intimate conversations, and a rotating line-up of live music ensures the sights and sounds are as impressive as the beverages we shake up. Here, creating cocktails really is an art form.

You have to book and go through security to get to this bar ... and when you get there, your "skyview" is not guaranteed! We were put at a table facing a wall!!! There is a minimum spend that just about covers two cocktails and then the drinks are extremely expensive. I am sure many of the readers have been to as good if not better bars around the world.

Need to book in before your visit to go inside - I think it's better from outside. We went to the sky bar & had cocktails which was a very nice start to the evening.

I am not certain what makes this a 7 star property. I have seen 5 star hotels in China, New York or Miami that can easily compete.

If you must see the inside of the Burj El Arab, make reservations for one of their restaurants either online or by phone, credit card required. They will email you a confirmation that you must show to enter the property.

The decor reminds me of the Scarface movie or an all gold cruise ship built in the late 80s. In other words, gaudy and of poor taste. The views from the Skyview Bar are so so. If you can snag a table overlooking the city lights, lucky you. Otherwise you are looking at pitch black water at night.

The prices are expectedly outrageous. $30 cocktails. We ordered the mezze platter, which was nice and comparatively reasonable. The chef's dessert selection was a joke. $30 for 5 teaspoon sized desserts, all custards, no texture and no variety.

Service was great. Although after the fifth time of being asked whether we'd like to order another cocktail, it became obnoxious. I get it, they train the staff to sell the ridiculously overpriced drinks but can we sit and relax in peace for 10 minutes?

Would not do this again. I am willing to bet you can have a better experience at many other hotels or restaurants in Dubai.

Be sure to grab some of the complimentary dates on your way out. They are hidden on a covered golden (naturally) platter just outside the lobby restaurant. They are delicious and way better than the chef's dessert!

My husband and I visited this bar during our honeymoon. We wanted to see inside buy al arb and this is the cheapest way. We had a reservation for 7.30 and arrived 30 mins early so we could take some pictures. We looked around and then made our way upstairs. We had great seats looking towards the main city. We had 2 cocktails each and really enjoyed them. We were treated to some canapés and loads of nuts! The staff were very attentive and the service wa very quick. As it was our honeymoon I was given a red rosé by the staff. Overall a great part of our honeymoon.

We had just been to the tallest building in the world, so why not splurge and check out the only 7-star hotel in the world, too. The lobby was very impressive – beautiful super-high ceilinged atrium, and huge aquariums on either sides of the escalators. We knew there was a $75/person minimum, so were resigned to that. We were with really good friends, so had a good time, but I have to say, overall, the décor looked more like cheesy over-the-top Vegas, w/ gold accents and colored lights and futuristic sci-fi tunnel, than classy upscale luxurious. It does have a nice view, but mostly from the far side.

The cocktails were very pricy – the cheapest being about $25 US (although you could get a glass of sauvignon blanc for under $20). Our favorite was probably the Seventh Heaven – vodka, raspberry puree, passion fruit syrup, ginger ale, fresh ginger and kaffir lime leaves. Served over crushed ice; very refreshing and tasty. Close 2nd was the Perfect Gimmick – with vodka, cranberry juice, hibiscus syrup, pink peppercorns and blackberries. The canapés were pretty blah – salmon mousse on a dry rye bread, little quiches (less tasty than the Costco kind) and nuts. Vibe was pretty stuffy, although our server, Eranda, from Kandy, Sri Lanka, was wonderful. He even hooked us up w/ some fun bars to check out afterward.

Overall, we had a good time, and we did get to check out the world’s only 7-star hotel, but honestly, if you were to ask my opinion (for whatever that's worth), I'd say go to the top of the Burj Khalifa to check out the stunning views of Dubai, check out the Burj Al Arab from the outside (free), and save your $ for one of the many fun tasty restaurants/bars in Dubai.
