“Living in the Gloria”
Reviewed August 20, 2012 via mobile

The Gloria is in a great location, right near the metro station which just a month ago had a lift put in ( open air ) so you don't have to climb the flights of stairs. The staff are very friendly and polite, and the restrants are good and a good selection is available. As I said i lived there 6 months (my husband lived there 12 months), the failings of the hotel are, the lifts on week ends expect to wait up to 20 minutes and when you get on you have to squeeze in, the door locks on the rooms need there batteries changing on average every 2 weeks. So you have to sit out side your room and wait for maintenance to come, if your phone call is not lost in translation it should only be 15/20 minutes. Our windows were only cleaned once, we did request that they get cleaned but no. We had a nice view but ended keeping the curtains closed. The hotel is very busy during holidays and can get noisy with children. So be patient and you will be fine.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your candid and valued comment as we always like to get feedback from our guests. This keeps us on our toes, and helps us to better our services to our guests.

You mentioned the elevators were a problem at times with regards to waiting: yes it does happen at times when we are running at very high occupancy, and we are looking into finding a long term solution to this matter.

The window cleaning: This is an ongoing battle against the elements, due to the fact that we live in the dessert. We often experience sandstorms, and this is the major cause for continous dirty windows of high rise towers! This means that our window cleaning team have a constant never ending battle in ensuring our guests can enjoy the lovely views of Dubai. As a South African it took me a while to adjust to this fact that the sand blows everywhere and windows do not stay clean for long.

Dubai is a city where everyone here comes from another country, and speaks different languages, as you so experienced with some of our staff. This means things can get lost in translation very easily, and can cause frustration, which you experienced. Please accept our apologies for this.

I would like to extend an invitation to you Jeanette when next in the area, to call me and lets have a coffe together in the lobby.

Kind regards.

Theresa du Toit.

the hotel is really nice for a furnished appartment hotel, very good value for the money
big rooms, nicely equiped kitchen, nice facilites and good location for people with Business in Dubai Internet City

i left one week earlier than planned [Switched hotels] because each and every time i had to deal with the reciption (not refering to 1 time or 1 employee in particular i mean all 5 employees i did deal with including DM's) i end up frustrated (they make thnings look worse than they are), starting from my check-in experience

crowded elevators, high street noise on lower floors
but again if you don't mind the above it is spacious, equiped kitchen, nice pool, aminites and facilites are nice, just opposite to the metro station which is a great plus and lots of taxi available,

for me there are alernatives that are good enough for (3 of them are walking distance from the same hotel), but again if they get the staff trained on how to deal with guest as valued customers they have a very good potential

Room Tip: High Floor have less noise

Dear guest,

Thank you for your candid review of our hotel. We appreciate all feed back, be that positive or negative. This keeps us on our toes, and causes us to improve constantly.

It is a pity that you had such frustration dealing with reception as well as the DM's. This is certainly not good enough and our staff should be able to handle our guests with professionalism and competence.

Please be assured that this matter is not taken lightly and that it will be dealt with by the relevant dept. heads. We are after all in the hospitality industry and our mission is to make your stay most enjoyable.

I trust we could welcome once again at our hotel, and if so, I would love to meet with you and lets enjoy a cup of coffee together.

Kind regards.

I have basically selected this hotel due to the room size and price since I was travelling with my wife and daughter. The rooms are excellent in size, I booked a one bedroom apartment that comes with a seperate room, seperate living room, toilet, kitchen, home appliances including a washing machine and a big fridge, kettle, etc ...

The rooms can win the prize of the ugliest decoration you can ever see - if you are sensetive to ugly furniture then do not stay here. if you are indifferent about it then you will survive it. However this does not affect on the cleanliness of the rooms as they were very clean.

The service is not as professional and efficient as it should be, huge room for improvement. No wi-fi. Cabled internet costs USD 7 per hour which is a theft!

For me, in the future, I would select to a pay a little bit more and stay at a nicer place.

Huge hotel, 1010 rooms with all the facilities you can wish for. Hairdresser, mini market inside the hotel, gloria jeans coffe shop, SPA with all kind of treatments.
The reeptionist was so nice and upgrated me to an executive floor, 40th floor. .. although it was my first stay with them... and my credit card didn't work :))
The apartments its really nice, huge bed, confortable sofa. The apartament is really big, separate living room and bedroom. Separate kitchen also that had everything you need.(plates, pans, salad bowls, forks, knives, etc).
It is so confortable you can easily live there for weeks/months.
Big variety of room service, sushi included, good prices.
Also noodle bar inside the hotel.
Totally value for money.
Very covenient location also, on SZR, walking distance from a supermarket and a farmacy,
Everything was as it's suppose to be and even better.

Room Tip: The higher the better, the view its amazig.

Not sure if it is a business or a family hotel, it really depends on the week. A lot of amenities but lucking important ones such as WiFi. Also service level varies wildly depending on the person you end up dealing with. The best gym in town

Spent several weeks in this hotel. Most rooms get the noise from the Sheikh Zayed highway so lightsleepers better stay away from this place. There aren't enough elevators so expect waiting lines if you need to get to the top floors. Hotel seems to focus on families with children so expect a lot of screaming and running around. Pool is ok but crowded in the mornings and doesn't get sun in the afternoon. Rooms are fine but furniture is tacky. Internet connection is awful.
All in all, there's much better to find in Dubai.
