Owner description: Shopping at Traditional Souks, such as Dubai Spice Souks, exposes travelers to Arab style marketplaces where goods are bought and sold. Bargaining allows you to acquire different commodities, such as spice, gold, textiles and perfumes.

Tip 1: This souk is exactly the same as the Spice Bazaar in Istanbul, just that it is not so crowded. Mind you, some of the shops shut at 1.30pm so that they can attend the prayers.

Tip 2: Do not give anyone any eye contact if you don't want to buy anything

Tip 3: One round of walking through the market is good enough to see the whole picture. BUT if you are a spice-lover, of course you can stay longer and choose the stuff you like and bargain with the seller.

Tip 4: Please wear modestly because most of the sellers are men.

Tip 5: Its pretty difficult to find a toilet here so make sure you go to the toilet beforehand.

Tip 6: Also try and take the 1 dirham boat ferry near the market. It is one of the most amazing experience i ever had.

Tip 7: Most of the shops are targeting business dealers more than individual buyers. It seems like they are selling wholesale quantity instead of per item.

Tip 8: Definitely ask for samples to try before you buy anything!

Discovery Travel Channel visited the spice market and i saw a pic of an Arabianized Gelateria shop at the Spice old souk. I actually visited the souk and found the shop which wasn't in the main path but saw some ppl eating it. They have Camel gelato to Dates and Ferrero Rocher wasnt expecting an Italian blend with a traditional pure taste.

The spice souk is certainly not what it used to be - the streets have been tidied, the building refurbished, and the spice traders are sadly a lot less talkative.

We walked through the spice souk, and almost every shop had the same items, either cheap clothes or tacky Dubai souvenirs. There was a salesman in front of every shop and they almost tried to pull you into their shop. We went into one of the shops where there wasn't a salesman in front and bought a couple of gifts.
It wasn't really worth the trip, but it was nice to see other parts of Deira, it's so far from the new Dubai.

Going rate seems to be around 5aed for 100grams.
You may be able to better that.
Wonderful smells and colours.
