Description: Spreading its wings far from Shoreditch’s Rivington Street original in London, Rivington Grill, Souk Al Bahar was the first to open in Dubai, followed by a second, Rivington Bar and Grill that opened in 2012. The restaurant, located in the cosmopolitan Downtown area, is very well known in Dubai and is famed and loved for its seasonal menu, simplistic décor, friendly staff and fantastic views. The Rivington Grill concept is ‘back to basics’ home cooked food, offering authentic British classics, with what the chef’s call ‘a Rivi twist’.The adjoining terrace is the restaurant’s highlight; sitting over the water ways of the Dubai Fountains, with the Burj Khalifa looming just meters away, it offers one of the best vistas in the city, and makes a great space for sundowners and dinner parties at dusk. As well as the á la carte menu and the blackboard specials, the restaurant also offers ‘The Rivi Lunch Hour’ which is a new take on the common ‘business lunch’, where a 2 course lunch will be all done and dusted within an hour for just 100 AED.

“OK but not the great restaurant i expected”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

A visit to the Rivington Grill was well overdue, we had seen the original restaurant overlooking the Burj Khalifa and the fountains several years ago and heard good reports, so we finally decided to try their their outlet at Madinat Jumeirah.

We enjoyed the meal, my daughter and i had cocktails, they were fine, my wife had oysters and she was very happy, i had the roast beef which was excellent, my wife had some seriously large prawns which were well done, my daughter had spatchcock chicken and my son had the fish and chips which were both ok, some of the vegetables were excellent ! The stick toffee pudding dessert was average and the irish coffee was fine.

What i struggle with is the question what is this place ? It's a grill, both locations have nice views, but its basically up market pub grub and the decor is white and for me bland. Some of the staff dress in jeans and seem more intent on getting you in and out so they can get more diners in and although the service was fast and efficient we didn't feel their was much warmth in the place. I felt decidely over dressed wearing a jacket...

At Madinat Jumeirah there are dozens of other restaurants literally next door to Rivington Grill, which have more varied menus and the dining experience is more fun.

“Excellent food”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Booked dinner outside on the balcony. The food was excellent, we had line caught sea bass and the fish and chips and then the banoffee pot. The setting is perfect to sea the fountains at night, however the night we went it was the craziest storm, thunder, lightening and rain. A shame we didn't see the fountains but that didn't spoil the night. We just came back the next night and saw the fountains.

“Good Food But the Service is not as Good”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

Went there with friends. The welcome was nice. Waiter came over to the table reasonably fast, gave us the menus and we ordered drinks, then we waited and waited until we had to remind another waiter, since ours was a no show, about he drinks. Finally we got our drinks, from another waiter. Mind you, the restaurant was not full at all. The service continued at the same level.

However, the food we ordered was very good. Oysters were fresh, Beef tartare was tasty and the steaks were perfectly cooked.

Too bad the service brings down this fabulous place.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Great position, great views, one of the few places in Dubai where there is both great food and great service in one place. Went there on both trips to Dubai and fantastic both times. a wonderful, relaxed, unrushed meal, great staff, there when you need them but not obtrusive. Take a torch or torch phone app as reading the menu can be tricky at night but the dark is perfect for the view of the fountains.
