“Not a good hotel for business - or staying in”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

I have now stayed for two weeks in this hotel and overall, it is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in in Dubai. Why is that?

At first sight this hotel has a lot to offer. The rooms are very big. Mine had a large bedroom with en suite, a lounge, a well equipped kitchen and a separate toilet. But it's not just the rooms that make a great hotel.

First, and most importantly the staff do not seem very happy for you to be in the hotel. The service at breakfast is slow and servers never offer extra coffee they always have to be summoned. And that reminds me. the egg man is so slow at preparing omelettes. Someone should tell him to turn up the heat. The guys at the gym are so engrossed with their mobiles they do not greet you when you check in - not good. The best staff member I met was Fazlul who cleaned my room every day and always greeted me with a smile.

Second, the internet connection was unreliable. This was a major problem when you are working. The whole hotel internet system needs to be upgraded and made reliable. If there is no internet you cannot work here; if you cannot work here, there is no point in staying here.

Third, the food is generally indifferent, although I did like the Arabic lentil soup on the room service menu.

Fourth, the elevators grrr. The hotel has a system where you specify your room floor and the system allocates a car for you. This approach led to some long delays and most people make the mistake of getting out at the wrong floor and finding they have to go to an interchange floor such as the lobby to get to their destination. To be positive this system was so unusual I have decided to study elevator algorithms and I am thinking of researching the topic in depth.

There were some little annoying features:
* The cups did not fit properly on the saucers in my room
* The kettle had the wrong plug and I had to ask for an adaptor
* Large containers for dirty linen were always to be seen in corridors
* The shisha smoke beside the pool did not create a healthy environment
* The washing line over the bath allowed wet clothes to drip on the floor
* There was a persistent smell of dampness in the bathroom
* The windows were filthy and I couldn't see out
* The sofa was stained

Overall, disappointing for such a 'Grand' hotel which is very well located on Sheikh Zayed Road

Room Tip: Choose a room where the WiFi works and where the windows have been cleaned.

Dear Mr. Cystal2161;

Thank you for staying with us and for giving us your constructive review.

First point – regarding our staff, rest assured that will be dealt with properly, and we will sahre your comments during our training sessions .

Second point – We do agree that internet connection is very vital to our clients who are here for business and poor connection as you’ve mentioned is of no use. However, we are currently upgrading our system to serve our clients better. Project will be complete within a week.
This way our guests will be able to maximize their stay either for business or for holiday.

Third point – for the food, we actually have 3 different restaurants that offers 3 different cuisines. Nevertheless, we will still communicate this with our executive chef.

Lastly, please note that our elevator system is the most advanced in the city, we had some challenges during the launching period, however I can assure you now that the system is working properly.

Again, we sincerely thank you for this review as it will definitely serve as our gauge in providing perfect service.

We hope to see you again on your next visit to Dubai!

Regards,
Tarek

We traveled by road to this hotel. It was During the Eid Holidays and as excepted it was crowded. Service was good and Valet Parking came in really handy. Metro is near by and there are other Restaurants on the other side of the road which can be accessed with the help of the metro subway. Dubai Mall and the Burj is near by (not walking distance) but yeah taxi distance. Immediate access to the Sheikh Syed Road is very helpful and the exit also helps in travelling to abu dhabi side as well. Location was really helpful.

One annoying thing in the hotel could be the lift ... which i was seeing for the first time. With no buttons inside the lift it was little bit difficult to commute between floors.

overall a great hotel with great service. If we were satisfied during the Peak - Business time for the hotel. I am sure they will do better during the normal .. season as well.

we were a large group and they were able to keep us all together. the service was excellent in the rooftop bar and great hospitality by their manager ranjan. some of us made special requests and these were all honored without hassle. outdoor seating was cool and breezy in the evening. we enjoyed a lot only the problem we faced food, the breakfast was disaster & terrible. the omelet counter's chef was rude & unprofessional we requested the omelet for my dad it took 1 hour when i checked with chef he replied, he is busy & it will take time which made me crazy. because after us the people who came they got first. the quality of breakfast same every day, they are placing same food, so we got bored to eat same food every day. last time we stayed in four point Sheraton. Their quality of were food, but disaster hospitality.
Again we will come back to this hotel & we hope their will be changes on buffet.

The bed and pillows at this hotel were great, location not too bad, not right near anything but all accessible with a short cab ride. Rooms reasonably appointed but tired. Water lukewarm in the morning for showers, ok at night. Staff were not at all service focused. Check in was offhand, no information was available. Breakfast was to be delivered before an early flight. After 2 ph calls and a visit to reception, eventually we received a very poor boxed breakfast almost 30 minutes late without apology. Concierge was the only helpful and efficient staff member we encountered. Would not stay again.

I have been all over the world stayed in some terrible places but this takes the cake. The service is beyond appalling!
We got bed bugs, the mini bar was missing. My father was overcharged and after asking for a proof of check out was told they can't provide one. The rooms smelt like curry.

I felt that because we were white we were treated as lower class.

Reception seamed to be running a racket with the private taxi drivers ushering us into a waiting taxi only to be ripped off by the driver.

I cannot understand how management can allow such terrible place to exist.
