Owner description: Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is one of the most captivating attractions in Dubai. Located at The Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world, offering a memorable journey into ocean life. With capacity to hold 10 million litres of water, Dubai Aquarium is one of the largest indoor aquariums in the world and it illuminates the marvels of the ocean floor, showcasing one of the most diverse collections of aquatic life. Located just above the aquarium, Underwater Zoo brings visitors up close with penguins, piranhas, crabs, water rats, sea horses, jellyfish and plenty more. A fascinating new addition at Underwater Zoo is King Croc, regarded as nature's rare phenomenon and one of the world's largest reptiles - at over 5 meters long and weighing an imposing 750 kg plus. Underwater Zoo regularly hosts innovative exhibits. One such exhibit, 'UAE's Night Creatures' presents the experience of nightfall in the desert as creatures of the dark.

Went to the Dubai Aquarium and thoroughly enjoyed it, even though have been to many others around the world.

We got an upgraded ticket which included a glass bottom boat ride and a discount voucher to use in the gift shop.

Really enjoyed the overall experience and the tunnel.

Would highly recommend, wouldn't go again as I think it is one of them experiences you can do once.

Gift shop is expensive but a good variety.

First off the aquarium is amazing and the 20,000+ fish are a sight to see. There are circa 70 sharks in the tank too and it's amazing to walk through the tunnel and see them swimming over the top of you. The boat trip is worth doing too. It's only 5 mins or so but interesting to look down and see all the fish below.

Why spoilt? Well sorry but the zoo is awful from the welfare point of view. Sure all the animals are well kept but I fail to see the point of taking two crocodiles from their natural habitat and sticking them in a small tank/enclosure. The video commentary basically tells how the aquarium manager had an idea to bring crocs and thought it would draw the crowds. Yes that's right it is all about getting people in at any cost to the wild animals. Now the poor crocs will spend the rest of their lives in captivity. There was nothing wrong with them, they were not in danger, so why move them to Dubai? Money! I find this quite sad. I am all for saving and rescuing when there is a need but in this case it was driven by commercial gain.

So the fact is I went and part of me enjoyed it but I can't help feeling a crocodile is a wild animal that should have stayed in the wild. Why not take one born in captivity?

On this basis I would refuse to go again. I did not realise the crocs were there or their story.

Dear Dxbreviewer1,

Thank you for your comments and we are pleased to hear that your overall experience was enjoyable.

We would like to take this opportunity to assure you that we are committed to the highest standards of quality and management at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo.
With regards to the crocodiles, we are proud to have provided a new home for these incredible animals and would like tell you more about their story. In Australia, they’re a highly protected species and until recently they were on the brink of extinction. However, if a saltwater crocodile becomes a risk to the public, the government is quick to react and have the animal removed from the wild.

Mr and Mrs King Croc at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo were identified as ‘Problem Crocs’ 30 years ago, by the Australian Government, therefore could not return to the wild. Since then, they’ve been living in captivity in a farm. With their advanced age, they could no longer stay on the farm because of their low breeding success rate. Therefore, their future was as ambassadors
of their kind to educate people about them and their role in the ecosystem.

The Australian Government supports that such animals are given homes in Zoos and Aquariums only if their highly demanding criteria are met in terms of quality, qualifications of the staff caring for the animal, educational value and business integrity.

King Croc’s habitat is fitted out with all the best features to manage his environmental and social needs. We have built a specially designed exhibit three times the required space as per guidelines, and in fact replicated the Queensland environment. We control the humidity level, the air quality as well as air and water temperature.

We appreciate your sincere concern, and would like to assure you that we follow international best practices in the management of Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo.

Best regards,

Paul Hamilton

It was good to finally visit the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo after having heard so much about it. The aquarium presented an opportunity to my kids to see different types of fishes and they sometimes even found it hard to believe they were real! The underwater zoo experience was also fun and I'm glad we were able to visit this unique attraction.

Amazing to see 10,000,000 Liter aquarium within a mall, it houses 85 different types of fish. Ranging from sharks to sting rays. such a unique attraction as it is the last thing you would expect to see in the middle of a shopping mall. There are different packages available to buy. You can also go diving in the tank if you want a closer experience with the fish. Glass bottom boats also circle the top of the aquarium. Once you have went through the tunnel of the aquarium. Giving you a great view of all the fish hiding you get to go on the boat. There is also an aquatic zoo in with the price. Lots of cool animals to see from piranas to a king crocodile. Easily the biggest i have ever seen. Couldn't recommend this any more. Its a MUST if visiting the mall. Don't miss out.
