My wife and I flew in from Istanbul on the "Red-Eye" flight on Emerites. Meaning we landed at 1:15 AM. We knew we needed a reasonable place to "crash" for half a day before paying full rates at our main distination...the Atlantis on the Palm.
Being an Accor member we found that previous experiences with the Pullman chain didn't disappoint in price and good accomodation. So this was an ideal set-up as our jumping off point to visit Dubai. The knowledge that this particular hotel was attached to the opulent Mall-of-the-Emirates didn't go unnoticed by my wife.
Arrived at the Pullman, after customs procedures and a long taxi ride at 2:30AM. We were buggered! The reception staff made the formalities brief and we were escorted to the 17th floor (executive suites) to see an inviting large, modern room with a large bathroom and spa bath. We were anxious to get into bed but waited and waited for our luggage to arrive. I finally had to call reception and ask "'What's taking so long? We were the only ones to check in." Another 10 minutes and the bags arrived. It gave us time to freshen up and then down-for-the-count at 3AM.
Awoke at 9:30 AM remembering that Breakfast hours ended at 11AM. A "wake-up" shower got us started and we found the large breakfast area to our liking. Plenty of buffet tables with lots of international food to select from and chefs to serve us. Noticed there wasn't any pork bacon presented, only turkey strip bacon. Oh well, when in Rome.... The foreign staff (mostly Asian) were very fast and efficient with coffee and any other requests. It was nice to feel that we picked a winning hotel.
With a noon check-out approaching and a wife chomping-at-the-bit to visit the Mall next door I went to reception gal with a favour to ask. Could you add an extra couple of hours to our check-out. "No problem, let's give you till 3 PM,"' she offered. Perfect! We did have a great walk around seeing this amazingly large Mall. The ski resort area was a hoot but the more serious areas were shopped first. The credit card had some minor contusions but survived for another day. As I always say..."Happy Wife...Happy Life!"
We wrapped up our Mall exploration with thoughts to return for future acquistitions. Our bags were, this time, quickly returned to the lobby with a taxi awaiting our leaving of the room. All in all, we will be looking to staying at the Pullman for more than a rest-stop next year. It is not only situated in a prime position but also closer to other Malls, scenic sights (Burj Kalifa & Burj al Arab) and souqs then the Atlantis is way out on the Palm.
