On arrival you come into the building from the rear. It's almost as if you are going into the trade entrance - dirty sofas in the open air and the marble floor covered in sand and cigarette ends. A terrible first impression. The male receptionist, although pleasant, was being trained, so things took time. On another occasion, the female filipino receptionist was on the phone when we arrived in reception. She continued with her phone call which sounded as if it was to a friend, and never once made eye contact or acknowledged us. We waited patiently while she finished, although another male member of staff looked at us and then her and seemed concerned we were not being spoken to. Finally, when she put the phone down, she didn't even apologise or smile. Reception needs a really good shake up. Concierge however was good.
Rooms are ok for the money, although its a nonsense that they give you a fully functioning kitchen, together with pots, pans, cutlery, glasses, crockery - but no tea towel. I was told that if I wanted one I would have to buy one from the shop. I was also told that housekeeping do not clean the kitchen. All a bit strange to me, after all you are given a fully functioning bathroom, together with towels, shampoo, bath gel, etc. and the housekeeping team clean that. But no tea towel, no washing up liquid and no cleaning from housekeeping in the kitchen. Oh, and only one towel per person in the bathroom. Which is a nuisance if you have long hair, so I had to specifically ask for an extra small towel for my hair. Need new shower curtain which was brown at the bottom and some furniture a bit scuffed
With all the above taken into consideration, the rooms aren't bad and cleaned ok - Its cheap so value for money is good.
When going to breakfast, the dining room was empty. All the lids on the heated serving dishes were off, so the food was cold. It was absolutely awful. Stayed in loads of hotels in the middle east and this was the worst breakfast I have had. The pancakes were hard, some items had run out and not been replaced, or looked old and not at all fresh. When I looked at the woodwork around the room, I noticed the surface of the wooden drawers, which were covered in greasy finger marks. They looked as though they had not been cleaned with a soapy cloth in months. Didn't go back to the restaurant again.
Hotel shop is very poor, not worth being there really.
The place is cheap and next to the metro, but that's all that is going for it. The fact that its so grubby is such that I won't go back again. Shame really, if they gave the place a really deep clean, it would be great, oh and employed staff on reception who smiled.
