Owner description: In the historic district, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai, is an affordable 10-minute traditonal wooden boat ride -- really a taxi. Take the abra from the Bastakiya side, look around the textile souk and the art galleries, and end in the gold souk. Used by 15-20 million passengers each year, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai is a memorable cruise in the water.

Very very tipical, a "real" thing in Dubai.
For just 1 aed, you can cross the creek on this wooden boat.
During sunset time these 10 minutes are even more charming.

Visiting dubai is an experience that everyone should try atleast once. Although with such high humidity i hated walking outside in dubai this was one place where i really enjoyed walking along the dock. A serene place and very different to the hustle and bustle of the dubai malls.

I hired an entire boat for myself for AED150. It was a long and nice trip in the evening. When the wind stopped blowing, the heat became oppressive. Take a bottle of ice cold water - to drink and also to wash your face with, if you go during peak summer, like I did.
Great views. See the pics.

Travel by abra to see the creek, mingle with locals not selling anything and feel the breeze on a hot summer day. An experience we love when travelling here on holiday. A longer trip on a private basis can easily be arranged, try and get an owner who speaks good English to explain the sights along the way.

Nice, inexpensive way to cross the creek and get to the souks. Traditional method of travel for the locals, this also serves the tourist as a nice alternative to taxis. Cooler on the water and more scenic for sure. What you accomplish in a few minutes on the Abra would take a taxi 15 minutes by road.
It is a nice reminder of the roots of the emirate culture.
As you can see from the photo, it is an open wooden boat with no creature comforts, but hat a way to travel!!
