Owner description: In the historic district, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai, is an affordable 10-minute traditonal wooden boat ride -- really a taxi. Take the abra from the Bastakiya side, look around the textile souk and the art galleries, and end in the gold souk. Used by 15-20 million passengers each year, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai is a memorable cruise in the water.

Pleasant ride from the gold souk area to the other side where the Dubai museum is located.
One ride=1 dirham

This is a fun thing to do, and the original mode of transportation for hundreds of years. Remember to sit down and bring your camera. The spice and gold souks are on the Deira side and the textile souk is on the Bur Dubai side.

We thought that the abras might be touristy. We were wrong! These are still a major form of water transport for the locals on their way to and from the markets. You really feel that you're stepping back in time as you cross the waters from one souk to another, passing by old wooden trading ships that still sail the Arabian seas all the way to India and back. This was a very special and very (genuinely) authentic experience. Please enjoy!

Crossed the creek in an abra and then spent a good few hours browsing. Had egg parathas in a back street and then fresh juice and samosas by the creeks - both very inexpensive. Enjoyed watching the boats being loaded up ready for their long journeys. It was great to see this side of Dubai and it it was just as enjoyable as the 5 star hotels etc.

The abras are a fantastic 10mins or so journey across the river. really fun ride and very cheap - however be careful with kids as there is absolutely no barriers or heath & safety whatsoever so easy to fall in the river!
