We arrived early in the morning and was very tied they tried to have the room ready early but in the end they gave us a up grade, which was excellent with full sea view.
The pool area is only small for the size of the hotel but it works well people are coming and going all the time so you just sit on the chairs and wait until a bed becomes available, or you could go to the beach, the hotel provides a beach pack of beach mat, towel and water which comes in handy.
We had trouble booking the things we wanted to do eg; the burj for afternoon tea £72 approx and the desert safari they were fully booked due to it being a bank holiday but the concierge pulled a few strings and managed at least to get us on the desert safari which we would highly reccommend, what fun but don't eat just before you go.
The BIG BUS TOURS are a good way to see the city and get around just hop on and off were you want, there is a mini bus that collects you from the hotel and takes you to the bus stop. Also there is a sky train that can take you to most malls and around the city.
We can't comment on the malls as we didn't have time but that's a good reason to go back.
We did have alook around some other hotels and they all looked very nice but i'm so glad we chose the Sofitel and wouldn't hesitate to reccommend it to our friends and we will stay there on our next visit.

Pros: Nicely kitted out rooms, great toiletries and amenities, great view (despite noise - see below). Complimentary welcome drink for A Club platinum members includes champagne options :-). Nice lobby and reception areas, and clearly hotel had been done to a high spec (as with most 5* developments in Dubai). Lots of restaurants along the Dubai Marina stretch so alternative dining options are availalbe.

Cons:
1) Extremely patchy service esp at reception. Incapable of providing a non-smoking room even though we arrived at 11am and said we were happy to leave bags in left luggage until a non smoking room was available. We returned at 4pm to find that all non smoking rooms that were made available between 11am and 4pm had been given away and none were set aside for us. Plus there were no free upgrade options which normally come with my A-Club platinum card as most of the hotel was not yet complete. Plus there was no free access to the business lounge as that was not yet complete either. Throughout the stay, we had staff that could barely speak English struggling - poor things had just arrived months earlier from the Far East and received limited training on hospitality and/or English.

2) Once we managed to arm wrestle management into giving us a non smoking room, we found that smoke from next door came in through the air conditioning anyway ... Plus the rooms were on the small side, especially the separate shower cubicle - with so little space, having a combined bath and shower is probably a better use of space ...

3) The pool and surrounding deck area is TINY - given the size of the hotel once fully opened, the pool and surrounding area is probably large enough to accommodate only 20% of the full hotel? God know what would happen once the hotel reaches full occupancy!

4) There was a tacky amusement park with very noisy rides and music from about 10am-10pm all day, after which there was distant throbbing music from a distant restaurant. Particularly bad with sea view rooms.

5) Traffic along the stretch can be very bad at times - you will need to leave lots of extra time to get to the airport - remember to check with the concierge. Actually, this applies to cabbing it anywhere (and there are no other public transport options).

6) A bit of a 5 min hike to the beach - no this is not technically a beach hotel, unlike the Hilton which DOES have its own beach front and lovely gardens with birds singing.

Overall the hotel construction is high spec but there IS a structural capacity issue around the pool area - which they can't really resolve in the short term. Such a shame. Disappointing in the end and we've had no recompense from the hotel other than "sorry, it IS a soft opening". Fortunately we managed to have a good time in Dubai by going back to the hotel only to sleep.

NB-hotel seemed more oriental themed than french ...

Great hotel for those wanting to be near the beach. We had a room on the 29th floor (full ocean view) - it was worth paying the extra for this as the balcony had stunning views across the to the Palm. The pool area is small and shaded from the sun for half the day at this time of year, but the beach is less than 5 minutes away. Breakfast in the hotel is expensive for what it is, and there is much better quality anf value nearby on the Walk. Staff are great - the room was serviced twice a day to a high standard. There is a good range of eating places within easy walking distance of the hotel. We would definitely return here.

This hotel is still in its "Soft opening", but it was very welcoming. The staff are very attentive, but were prone to forget parts of our breakfast order, and gave some contradictory information which had to be followed up to ensure the right outcome. The quality of the breakfast buffet is as good as any I have sampled in Dubai (6+ hotels), and they have pork products available, which is not always the case. The pastries at breakfast are of the same high standard that I would expect to see in Paris, and freshly made.

The swimming pool had been closed prior to our arrival, but was open whilst we were there, although there is not a great deal of loungers available, and the pool itself is not very big. There is however, a public beach across the street.

The rooms are very nicely decorated with Hermes toiletries in the club rooms and nice seaviews from the balconies. The beds themselves are incredibly comfortable, with a choice of pillows available too. Outside our room, the hot water pipe burst on the first night and flooded the entire floor and we had to be moved to another floor, but this was well coordinated without any fuss and our clothes were moved by the butler so we lost no time re-packing.

Better information on shuttles to the malls would be useful. I understand they do operate but no information was provided upon check in or via the room directory. In many Dubai hotels this is standard and would enhance this hotel further which is some 15 minutes by taxi from the Emirates Mall and 25 minutes from the Dubai Mall. A taxi from the airport takes about 35 minutes.
