“Mirage but not so Royal...”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

We were there in February for 10 days. I recommend to go in March or so because of the weather.
The hotel is splendid, different of the big tall towers around Dubai. However some details differ from a 5 star hotel such as the not free internet or the service in the restaurants. The latter may be due to the different culture; in any case we do not appreciate the differences in treatment with respect to the women (tiny differences but still).
We were first in the Palace and then we have moved, because of the high air conditioner, to the Arabian Court. I would strongly recommend the Arabian Court: more private, warm and chill. Surprisingly breakfast differs a lot between these two buildings, once again Arabian Court offers much more choice.
The food is amazing. We recommend the “Eau-Zone” , “Nina” and “Tagine” restaurants; our “coup de cœur” …

My fifth visit to this hotel over 7 years and still a wonderful, peaceful and well run hotel. Beach and pool as good as ever and the excellent spas still offer a great service. Staff are attentive and cheerful. Grounds are beautiful.

My only gripes are the expensive internet and , more important, the standard of the half-board buffet has fallen. Used to be outstanding but now tired and repetitive. This is noticeable in all the high end Dubai hotels.

The only thing that really annoyed me was the housekeeper who, while we were getting ready to leave, came to the room and asked if we had taken anything from the minibar. I said no but he promptly checked it anyway and examined the glasses. He then collected the glasses from the bedside tables and sniffed them! A minute later another housekeeper turned up to check we had not stolen anything...

We stayed for six nights at the end of February, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and enjoying a much needed break. The hotel is half an hour from the airport and comprises three parts, the Palace (the largest block of rooms), the Arabian Court (middle market) and the Residence and Spa, catering for the top end of the market. There are seven restaurants to choose from. The Arabian Court offers everything you could want or need: large, comfortable and well equipped bedrooms, large pool with separate areas for children, families and adults, a permanent life guard by the pool, someone to organise entertaining mixed age group games of water polo, If you just want to sit and read, there are plenty of poolside chairs in sunshine or shade and drinks and fruit chunks are brought to your chair. There is even a personal chair-side sunglass cleaning service, twice a day, for when your lenses become smeared with sun cream or finger prints. The artificial beach at the front of the hotel is 1km long, approx. 50m wide and has plenty of chairs and sun shades on it. The water was cooler than we expected, and beware: there are (or were when we were there) a lot of jellyfish, approx. 4'' diameter with lavender coloured centres. Water sports, kayaks and small sailing boats are available in front of the Palace. Water skiing is taught by a Norse god-like blond hunk: if you girls didn't fancy water skiing before, you might when you come to Dubai!

We tried most of the restaurants. The Rotisserie comes as part of the half board package: very nice buffet breakfast with masses of choice, and a very good buffet in the evening. It has all the charm and romance of an airport concourse in the evening: it lacks any character, is too brightly lit and people wander through it going to and fro from the Eau Zone. You may want to trade up to Nina's, an excellent Indian / European fusion restaurant. We ate their twice and loved both meals. The Eau Zone, by the pool and the beach, is great for la light lunch and fabulous in the evening, with candlelit tables built on wooden decks above the pool. The food is excellent. The Bar and Grill is at the Palace - a decent 10 minute walk to the furthest corner of the resort, but worth the effort to enjoy good food by candlelight on the beach front. The specialization here is fish and steaks - excellent quality meat. You can even book a table for two under a private gazebo on the beach - but we didn't get in quick enough to order that. We booked a table at the Dining Room at the Residence for our anniversary meal: excellent food, slightly more formal surroundings. It's very exclusive so book early, as Residence guests get priority. The rooftop terrace is delightful for pre-dinner cocktails.

The staff could not be friendlier: they come from all over the world, but every one was delightful. We did, however, have some communication problems. A massage booked at the Spa was misinterpreted by the receptionist there as a Hamam so we were more than a bit surprised to find ourselves soaked by buckets of water, placed in a steam room, rubbed down with soap and black clay, scrubbed with glove-wearing masseurs whose gloves were as rough as brillo pads, and then finally given a massage. Neither of us will need to shave for months and my wife's pre-holiday fake tan disappeared without trace under the ferocious onslaught. It was entertaining, but not the relaxing massage that we ordered! A couple of internal restaurant bookings, made at the hotel's main reception, also went astray. Check your spa and restaurant bookings!

We didn't leave the hotel: it was so nice that we didn't want to. We would definitely return, and recommend it to anyone. Allow extra money in your budget if you are on half board to eat at some of the resort's other restaurants, and expect to put on a few pounds while you are there because the food is so good.

.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor, overlooking the gardens: no disturbance at all.

I have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Arabian Court with my daughter to celebrate her 30th birthday. We arrived early after a night flight and were welcomed with complementary drinks and breakfast.

Our room wasn't ready when we arrived and the hotel manager gave us the option of taking a different room earlier which was ready; she showed us both rooms so that we could chose which one we preferred. We chose to wait for the room on the 4th floor as it had beautiful views of the sea.

Everything about our stay was perfect, from the wonderful, friendly staff, the beautiful room, the excellent dining rooms and gorgeous Arabian décor. The hotel is one of three situated at the Royal Mirage and is set in beautiful grounds. There is a continuous shuttle bus that takes you between hotels, although it is only a few minutes walk along either the beach or the adjacent path to get between hotels..

The private beach is directly to the back of the hotel and has its own sunbeds and permanent sunshades. It is manned by hotel staff who provide clean towels and keep you constantly topped up with ice water and fresh fruit. They even come around and clean your sunglasses for you!

The rooms are luxurious and spacious and the beds are large and very comfortable ensuring a good night's sleep. Our room was situation at the far end of the hotel an and very quiet and peaceful.

There are several restaurants catering for a variety of tastes and we ate in four different ones and visited the rooftop bar. The food in all restaurants is of a very high standard and the buffet restaurants offer a huge variety. I don't eat meat, however, this was never an issue as there was always lots of variety and choice.

On my daughter's birthday she was presented with a beautiful vase of white and red roses, and a chocolate decorated shoe was brought to the room, she was later surprised by a birthday cake with candles brought to the table with the staff singing happy birthday.

I have stayed in many luxurious hotels in the world and can confidently say that this hotel easily ranks as one of the best I have stayed in. Everything about it is perfect, but what gives it the edge is the fantastic staff; The One and Only have got it spot on when it comes to customer service.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the management and all the staff for making this such a memorable visit; we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Room 4049 was great with fantastic sea views and lovely balcony.

Had a good week at the Arabian Court the staff are so attentive and can not do enough for you.
A nice touch is the drinks reception with the hotel management as its nice to give feedback to them about their relative departments.
The rooms are clean and serviced regularly with daily fresh fruit.
The only negative is the charge for internet use, in most 5 star hotels i have stayed in this is complementary including Le Royal meridian just along the beach and i would class The one and only as a superior hotel.

We have just returned from a one week stay at the Arabian Court. It had been highly recommended to us and we were not disappointed. We had a ground floor room which suited us perfectly and if you are travelling with children I would strongly recommend. The rooms were well equipped and tastefully decorated and perfectly fine for 2 adults and a child. What made this hotel stand out was the level of service. Having arrived at around 3 am we asked for tea and coffee making facilities to be brought to the room- this was done immediately. The room service was fast and efficient, the pool service excellent- the staff are so obliging, they really couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant choice fantastic and the quality of the food excellent. The kids club was more suited to younger children ( our son is 9yrs) but there was still plenty for him to do. He loved the water polo- John who organised it was great! The shuttle bus to the other hotels was very handy and made travelling between the hotels so easy. I was lucky to enjoy my birthday there and without any requests from us, the hotel came to my room with a chocolate shoe and a beautiful vase of flowers. We ate at the Eau Zone that evening and the staff there really made this evening special. The restaurants we tried were all good, depending upon what you are looking for. If you are visiting Dubai and don't want a huge impersonal hotel like the Atlantis, but would prefer understated luxury and fantastic, friendly service then this will tick every box! Thanks again for a great holiday! We will definitely be coming back!

Room Tip: Ground floor room was a bonus!

If you are looking for a relaxing luxurious getaway where you never have to leave the hotel, the One and Only Royal Mirage is it! Everything from the spa to the restaurants to the pool to the service is incredible. The One and Only is looking for you to have the most enjoyable experience and they will do everything in their power to deliver. My friend and I decided to have a "girl's weekend" and the Arabian Courts could not have been a better choice. Not only did it have fewer children, but it was also in close proximity to to most of the restaurants we were interested in.

CROWD: International well-off families. While we would have preferred fewer children, the Arabian Court was quite pleasant and peaceful.

HOTEL SETTING: Absolutely gorgeous hotel as well as location on the beach. The water is crystal clear and the beach looks incredibly from the moment you set foot on the property. The hotel itself is quite spread out, but takes a quick 7 min walk from one end to the other (no need for shuttle). The hallways and inlay works are simply incredible giving you a feel of old Dubai

FOOD: The hotel offers 3 different breakfast options and 6 different dinner options. As we stayed there 3 nights, we thought we would try all of the bfast options.... Unfortunately we enjoyed the Rotisserie so much we never tried any other spot! As for dinner we only tried Nina and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was quite good Indian food and hit the spot. As for bars, the Rooftop Lounge was quite enjoyable with a fabulous view and extremely comfy couches! However if you are looking for a "scene" you should head straight to the Jetty Lounge and 101 The Palm Bar and Grill. Talk about a chic crowd and fantastic experience! Make sure to reserve a table well in advance at both lounges (and for 101 you need to make a boat reservation as well). Both Jetty and 101 are great for a romantic evening with a plus one or a nice night for drinks under the stars with a group of friends. The food at 101 is ok, but you are going for the scene and the ambience which is well worth it. Finally, if you are looking for lunch, skip EauZone and head straight to the Beach Bar & Grill at the Palace. The food at Eauzone was mediocre at best, while the Bar & Grill were simple, tasty beach food.

ROOMS: Average overall. We stayed in a deluxe room with two double beds. The bed was not particularly comfortable and the room is quite dimly lit. Also our shower did not drain properly and we had some severe flooding issues by the end of out stay. Also, we were booked in room 2002 which was possibly the furthest room from the lobby. The hotel kept saying they were operating at full capacity, but the Arabian Courts were seemingly empty for most of our stay. For the first day we maybe saw a total of 20 people. The resort complex is massive so make sure to request a room closer to the lobby.

SPA: Arguably the BEST part of the entire hotel! My friend and I spent every morning of our stay working out and then getting pampered at the Spa in the Residence. While the Spa itself unfortunately lacks in terms of facilities (there is really only one cold pool and one dry steam room), the true value of the spa is in it's treatments. The Spa was running a 25% discount on all treatments before 1pm and we took full advantage (hence were able to try a variety of treatments). I highly suggest the Bliss Experience with Hasintha. She was absolutely fabulous - I ended up booking the same treatment twice as it included a relaxing hot stone massage and incredible ESPA radiance facial for sun spots.

SERVICE: The service at the hotel is spectacular. Every employee is willing to go out of their way to help you have the most enjoyable experience. The only critique I have is that the front desk staff at the reception need to be much better informed about the hotel. The girl who check us in and checked us out was extremely clueless. She just didn't know anything and it was extremely frustrating. She insisted on making our spa bookings, but could not explain the difference in treatments. She insisted there was no brochure explaining the treatments, and as I had emailed the spa earlier, I knew there was a brochure (I was not able to find it at the time). In addition, she gave us wrong information regarding reservations at the sister hotel. Luckily when we were checking out, her manager was there and made sure all the little miscommunications were taken care of. Finally, the hotel was very flexible and accomodating in giving us a late check out as well as getting us little items that we had forgotten at home (eye lenses case, toothbrush, etc).

BOTTOM LINE: If you are looking to be pampered among a luxurious setting with great restaurants and fantastic views, then this is the hotel for you. I definitely plan on returning to the One & Only and highly recommend to travelers in the future.
