My wife and I stayed one night at the Ibis Mall of the Emirates on a stopover to Europe.
In every respect, our stay at the Mall of the Emirates was positive.
Arrival was efficient and staff were relaxed and friendly. We were given plenty of information about the hotel and the location, and all our questions were answered easily, including with maps and timetables.
Our double room was as described and in line with our experience for a property of this type and price range. Our fourth floor room had a nice view from the window, particularly at night. Everything in the room was clean and tidy. Our only minor complaint was the shower door, which leaked onto the bathroom floor. I'm hesitant to blame Ibis for this because it's a problem with shower doors in just about every hotel in the world. I guess shower doors just look better when they're not sealed!
This hotel is one street across from the Mall of the Emirates, which is one of largest shopping malls in Dubai. I'm guessing you can spend several days (and many thousands of dollars) in the Mall of the Emirates, and still not see every shop.
The hotel is also reasonably close to the Mall of the Emirates Metro stop (it's about 600 or so metres walk away). Taxis are cheap in Dubai, meaning that you can get to the Metro stop without too much bother if you'd prefer not to walk.
As an overall comment about the location, Kempinski's Mall of the Emirates 5-star hotel is just down the street from the Ibis property. I think that tells you everything you need to know about the quality of the Ibis location.
Because of a very early flight arrival, we weren't able to move into our room on arrival. The staff kindly put our luggage in storage until later in the day. I noted that measures to secure the luggage were very good - you could only access your bags in the company of a staff member. This is a better arrangement than some other hotels we've stayed at over the years.
Good choice for stop-over and short stay. During summer, strolls and shopping in the air-conditioned comfort of the Mall of the Emirates would help fill in the day. We were very satisfied with this hotel.
Water: the hotel has a vending machine for bottled water on Level 3.
Dubai Metro: buy a first class day ticket. It's not much more and you'll enjoy the extra comfort
Mall of the Emirates: even if you don't ski, visit the St Moritz Cafe on the ground floor (south west corner of the Mall) and watch skiers and snowboarders riding snow in the desert.
Traffic: to access the Mall of the Emirates, walk east around the corner of the Kempinski Hotel (have a peek at a Google map to see what I'm talking about!). There are no traffic control devices at that intersection, but the traffic is not heavy in this area. But be careful all the same - Dubai drivers can be fast on the road!
