“ultimate in luxury”
Reviewed May 11, 2010

This was the first time I had visited the UAE and will definitely be returning later this year. Having decided to stay here we certainly weren't disappointed. The moment you step into the hotel you are immersed into the sheer luxury of the place.

Check in was effortless and the staff were more than happy to help. Having been taken to our rooms we were astounded at the sheer beauty of them and the view, wow, it was breathtaking, overlooking the pool and the best of the Dubai skyline with The Burj in the near distance. The room was spotless with a fully equipped mini bar and endless amounts of cosmetics in the bathroom. The room was spacious and comfortable with two queen size beds, a bathroom with sliding doors to maximise the view and a large plasma screen with a number of sky channels.

The staff at this hotel possess the most professional manners and are more than happy to help with whatever you require; down from the staff handing out beach towels to the staff buffing the marble floors each night to the staff in the breakfast room to the room cleaners.

The sheer size and beauty of the hotel is enough to leave you speechless. From the moment you arrive you are engulfed with the aroma of jasmine and the magnificent 20ft glass centrepiece that greets you in the reception, the mammoth fish tank by the shopping avenue and the numerous five star restaurant that are on the complex to the water park which is free for all staying guests.

I simply can't fault this hotel. 5 days simply wasn’t long enough!

when we arrived we upgraded our basic room to a suite with a balcony. the room was gorgeous and we had a lovely view of the burj al arab, beach, and hotel pools. the only issue with upgrading the room was that we went from 2 queen beds to one queen and we had to create a place for our son to sleep by pushing the armchairs and couch together. the room was lovely and clean; they brought us fruit, chocolates and mints. the bathroom was fantastic! a huge infinity edge bathtub, double sinks, closet/dressing/vanity area, separate shower and water closet. my only complaint with the bathroom was that the hot water on one of the sinks would not turn on and the hairdryer that is provided in the room only plugs into a certain outlet which is no where to be found in the vanity or bathroom (i blow dried my hair in the bedroom). for being such a fancy hotel the towels were like drying your body off with a brown paper bag! the beds were horrible! the pillows are typical hotel crap pillows, the mattress was hard and the sheets were so stiff that when you moved the whole bed made a rustling sound like being in a pile of leaves. we did not sleep very well and my body ached from just sleeping!

the hotel is massive that if you can't walk or just don't like to you can take buggies found along the beach to where you want to go. the avenues is a small shopping area where the "average" could not afford anything except in the souvenir shop! everything is super expensive! the only ATM in the entire hotel is located in the avenues (east tower area) which means a short "hike" if you're in the west tower like we were.

the first night there were had dinner at ronda locatelli the italian restaurant. the food was expensive and not really worth the money we paid. my husband had the breaded veal, while is was a buge portion of veal, it wasn't worth 210AED. i had the calzone and it was tasty (85AED). the restaurant is all about sharing food so the portions are huge! we decided that was going to be our only big spender meal. (btw, if you have kids call ahead to make sure they allow children. a few of the restaurants do not allow kids under 10)

i would recommend the dolphin encounter! we did the shallow water encounter since we had our 8 year old son with us. the trainers were super fantastic and so was our adorable little dolphin named alice. it's 625AED per person if you're staying at the hotel and while that's expensive it's worth it. my husband stayed on the beach as an observer to take photos and had to pay 100AED.

we were there for the "cool summer nights" carnival which was ok...not very organized though. they gave you maps but didn't tell things were going to be so you just had to walk around and follow signs. it was super crowded and very loud due to speaker all over the water park pumping music from the DJ and music. we walked to dolphin bay for the dolphin show a good 40 minutes before it began and it was already very crowded. the area to wait is very small but there's a starbucks coffee. mob mentality started to set in as it neared the time for the doors to open so everyone was pushing their way to the front. my son was scared that he was going to get hit. the hotel needs to really rethink how they'll allow people into the beach maybe using que lines or something. the beach area is not big enough to accommodate all those people...the staff had set out lounge chairs and oversized beanbag chairs which people pretty much fought for. we managed to get a seat but could not really see the show which is not all that fantastic.

all in all it was a great vacation! you don't have to leave the hotel for anything really! it would've been better if we had stayed longer!

Living in Dubai, I know most of the hotels here but when my family come over we always stay mainly at the Mina Salam at the Madinat Jumeriah complex where you are truly treated as a guest.

My wife was insistent on staying at the Atlantis and for once I went along with her choice, last time that ever happens!

Firstly, let me make one thing very clear, at the Atlantis you are not a guest here but just a pound sign and Atlantis will milk you like a cash cow for everything and I mean everything.

Not one for writing negative reviews, I do read the majority of reviews on this site and seen over 160, terrible, poor or average reviews in total for Atlantis alone. Quite scary for such a new resort and what I have found is that most people speak the truth on the trip advisor site as it is their money that is being spent on the stay.

Arrived at the check in desk at the lobby and was completely shocked at how busy it was, not with guests of the hotel but tourists coming in to view the complex and aquariums etc. The check-in staff was lovely and I received a free room upgrade without even having to ask which was a really nice start.

Provided us with an Atlantis Room on the 18th floor in the West Tower, whatever you do try to avoid the East Tower as it is mobbed with non-guests. The room itself was really spacious but did not have a homely feel to it as you get at the Madinat Jumeriah. Room service staff clean your room only once per day and provide a turndown service in the evening, they don’t really replenish the toiletries unless the bottles are completely empty and in the bin, so this might leave you short if you decide to take extra showers, not something you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

The beach is not really a beach in all honesty, more a waterfront of the hotel with sand thrown at it and the sunbeds are the cheapest of the cheap. They have a hood on them that is supposed to cover you from getting burnt in the sun but does nothing to protect you from the rays, you will either burn your legs or your face so take your pick as the hood will not cover you fully. The sunbeds are all stacked very closely together, reminded me of my first club 18-30 holiday in Ibiza and not something I expected from such a standard of hotel.

The pools are lovely though and quite a few to choose from but once again the sunbeds all stacked very closely together so do not expect much privacy especially on busy days.

Waterpark at the Atlantis is amazing, especially if you have children as they will want to go there every day and do their thing which is great if you want some time on your own. The sunbeds at the waterpark are extremely difficult to obtain as they go very quickly especially around the children’s play pool area, so unless you are there for the crack of dawn, you will need to find somewhere else to sit.

You pay for everything through the nose at the water park, from £3 for an ice cream to £8 for a simple burger and chips on the kids menu at Splashers, drinks are extra.

Buggies can take you to the waterpark and back but these are very difficult to get a hold of as seems like The Atlantis forgot to buy extra buggies, given the fact this hotel has almost 1500 rooms and only have about 6-8 buggies to take guests to and from the waterpark, someone did their maths seriously wrong!

If you have children, do not expect to admit them into the Kids Club for free. You are charged a whopping £51 per child, per day. Now the best bit is this, the kids club closes for lunch at 1pm (Very Sharp) and at 6pm (Very Sharp) for dinner. Should you not have picked your child up before lunch kicks in, you will be mandatory billed automatically a further £20 for lunch per child! Do the same again for failing to collect your child for dinner and yes, you guessed it you pay even more for the mandatory dinner. However you do receive a discount if you book your child for the kids club for 10 days, the cost is approx £350, per child.

For those of you who wish internet access, the cost for this is £60 for the length of your stay if you go for wifi in your room. However you can use the business centre as a pay as you go, works out far more expensive if you tally it all up.

This is the first time ever that we have stayed at a 5* Resort and been told you have to pay for the kids club and internet access, absolute joke considering the fact how much you are paying for this hotel per night. You are also charged £10 per day for guests for parking at this hotel, higher rate is payable for non-guests.

I think why this hotel is the way it is, is because my view is the management don’t read customer reviews on the Trip Advisor site. Should they pay a little attention to the people who save up their money like crazy to come and stay here only to be ripped off for everything, they may just start to get things going in the right direction but in my view, no chance of that happening immediately.

Breakfast is nothing to write home about in all honestly, during our stay over 400 delegates from Intel were at the hotel so lots of people waiting to eat so just hope you don’t have any large companies staying over during your stay, not a pleasant experience to say the least.

Would I ever come back to Atlantis, absolutely never but I would say is try it, then try Madinat Jumeriah and I am pretty sure which one you will choose.

Our flight was delayed back and the hotel asked if we wanted to extend our stay and not once did I hesitate in saying, No Chance!

Stayed at this hotel by chance really - we were stranded due to the ash cloud and our orignial hotel Le Meridian couldn't match the deal that the Atlantis were offering for stranded passengers. This is an amazing hotel, great staff, beautiful location with fantastic views back to the mainland and loads for the kids to do. If I had to complain about anything it would be the fact that it promotes itself as kid friendly but babysitting is expensive as they only employ "Nannies" and the kids club isn't inclusive. Otherwise, great for the Aquadventure and the Dolphin Bay experience is worth the money!

We stayed in Atlantis for our Honeymoon - and it did not disappoint!! Helpful staff - great facilities and we had some surprises from the housekeeping staff when they found out that we were there for a special occasion - they left us a card, and petit fours! We enjoyed Sanctuary (the inhouse nightclub) as they put on quite a show, and eric morillo was playing there during our stay. On the other side of the Hotel Nasmi beach, where we chilled out by sitting on beanbags with a view of the Dubai marina - sipping the night away. All in all it is Expensive - and drink is especially expensive - however you cannot go here and expect not to pay top dollar - look around at the facilities and the level of staffing - the upkeep costs would not be cheap for a resort of this size and cleanliness. We had a great time and would go back in the morning!

We booked 2 interconnecting rooms which were not available when we arrived late at night.we could not leave our young children alone so we had to sleep seperately.a bad start to this holiday!Reception and concierge very unhelpful here.We were stuck due to volcano and got no help from Atlantis whatsover. They charged us nearly 500 pounds to stay for one room with no breakfast! They couldn't care less.Would NOT go here again. Its too busy and there are several other hotels in Dubai with much better service for a better price!
