My sister and I stayed here for three nights, and all I can say is wow… This place is fantastic.
We booked the holiday through Virgin Holidays, and got a deal which included Flights, Transfers, accommodation and half board (excellent value).
On arrival at Dubai airport we were picked up by private car and taken directly to the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel all I could think was wow this place is amazing and we had not even gone in the front door!!!!
The reception / lobby area is amazing I personally think it had more of a wow factor than the Burj Al Arab.
The reception staff were very friendly and checked us in really quickly, the check in time was 14:00 but we were lucky that our room was available straight away at 09:00 so we could get changed and go and enjoy a whole day of the facilities.
Our room was in the East Tower, and on the way to the lifts we saw the massive fish tank, and we both could not believe how lucky we were to be in this amazing place and had not even got to our room yet!!
The hotel is open to the public, but only in certain areas. When you check in you are given a pouch with your key cards in that show security that you are a hotel resident, which ensures that only residents can access the floors where the rooms are, the pool areas, Aquaventure and Dolphin Bay. Security soon get to know you and are so friendly.
Our room was again “amazing“, we had two double beds and still had loads of room. The beds were really comfortable, with clean and fresh linen. The bathroom was huge with a separate toilet and separate shower. We were given plenty of clean fresh towels, and great quality toiletries etc. The novelty of having the movable screens by the bath was nice, it was a fun to be able to watch TV when laying in the bath. Their was plenty of wardrobe and storage space. Also in the room was a large desk and two chairs, an arm chair, mini bar, fridge, bath robes, hair dryers, iron and ironing board and an iPod clock radio. Basically every thing you need. The rooms were spotless and the chamber maids would ensure that you were happy and knock to offer any additional towels etc every evening.
The hotel is absolutely huge, you would need a week just to find everything, but all areas are spotlessly clean and all staff were brilliant. To get to Aquaventure and Dolphin Bay the hotel have little shuttles (like golf buggies) that take you there, because it is quite a walk!!!
We were on a half board basis (breakfast and evening meal), and were really pleased that we got this deal, because it saved us a fortune. On the half board basis you can choose to eat at either the Kaleidoscope (buffet) or Saffron (buffet) for breakfast. And for the evening meal you could choose the Rostang (French) restaurant or Kaleidoscope (buffet). If you wanted to eat a one of the many other restaurant the hotel would take off 140AED from the bill.
We ate two of our breakfasts in the Saffron restaurant, it was fantastic, and gave you so much choice it was unbelievable. The restaurant has at least six food stations all serving something different including, Indian breakfast, Japanese breakfast, Arabic breakfast, eggs, turkey bacon, porridge, different pastries, different breads, pancakes, waffles, yoghurts, fruit, juices, and the best bit a massive chocolate fountain with marshmallows, melon, dates and sweets to dip in.. naughty but such fun. We ordered room service for our other breakfast as we had to leave the hotel before the restaurants opened. The room service breakfast was great with good choice and as we were half board was able to include this in our package.
We ate two of our evening meals in the Kaleidoscope restaurant. The food was great and as it was buffet you had so much choice that we ended up eating so much that we couldn’t move afterwards (ha ha). Their was different food stations serving Japanese, Indian, Italian, salads, sushi, cheeses, fruits and loads of yummy desserts.
We also ate at the Rostang restaurant. This restaurant provided a half board set menu with a choice of different starters, main course and deserts. This restaurant was very nice and the personal waiter services was top class.
Drinks around the hotel is very expensive, but no more than what you would pay if you went to a five star hotel in London. Wine a approximately £10 a class, and cocktails were around £15. It is well worth looking to see the Happy Hours times for the different bars.
We also had afternoon tea in the “Platos” tea lounge. It was excellent. All the sandwiches and cakes were served buffet style and you were served scones, cream and jam at your table. You could also choose from various tea, coffee and other hot drinks. The waitress staff in here were brilliant.
We booked a shallow swim with the dolphins when we booked our holiday, and got it half price through Virgin. You are at Dolphin Bay for approximately an hour and a half and this includes time to change into the wetsuits, and educational talk and 30 minutes interaction with the dolphin. It was brilliant and well worth the money. My sister loved it so much she booked to do the deep water interaction the next day and as a hotel guest got a discount on the booking.
Aquaventure entry is free to hotel guests, which is brilliant because to outsiders it costs approximately £40 per person. As a hotel guest you receive a bracelet on the way to the park each day. The only extra we paid for was for a locker, which are approximately £8 a day. All towels are free to hotel guests aswell. The lazy river is brilliant, you can just relax in your rubber ring an float around for hours, and take different short cuts to different rides, such as the rapids and torrent, all were brilliant. The slides were great especially the “Shark Attack” where you go through the tunnel through the tank full of sharks, rays and different fish. My sister did the “leap of faith” she said it was brilliant but looked a bit to scary for me!!!. Food and drink is expensive in the park, but no more expensive than when you go to Chessington etc in this country.
The main pool area in the hotel is good, and very relaxing. Again all towels are provided, we even had a man come round to clean our sun glasses. It was great to sit in the pool and be able to look over to the buildings in Dubai.
The beaches were spotless, although we didn’t spend time laying on the beach, it did seem very relaxing.
All in all this was the most amazing hotel that I have ever stayed in, and would certainly return, it really does have the wow factor.
