Hi, We stayed here mid September 2012. Starting with the pool and beach, there are 8 towel stations around the pool and beach area. Any towels left on the beds for any length of time WILL be removed, unless you leave something of value on them, (book or own towel).
Very attentive pool staff with 6 lifeguards at the pool and 5 on the beach.
The pool is only 4ft deep and is cooled in the hotter months, whereas the sea, which is only 50 yards away is very warm. You get ice cold towels and ice lollies once per day.
There are plenty of Golf buggies to take you around from place to place, which is great if its scorching.
Rooms, they are immaculate, the room boys are very good and very polite. You get free water, tea and coffee daily in your room but everything else you pay for. Also there is a daily turn down service, and occasional towel art too. We asked for 4 bottles of water in the morning and he never failed!
Upgrades. We spent our 29th wedding anniversary here. We informed them months before, and we never mentioned it at reception when booking in. The receptionist was brilliant,, She offered us a room with 2 Queen beds, which we said we'd use one bed each night, she giggled! and said "hang on, a king size has just came up on the screen and its on the 18th floor facing the palm and city, will that do? and....... seeing as it's your anniversary, we'll do it for free" We were gobsmacked, ours eyes filled up and we of course said yes. Superb.
Imperial Club. Had our first 4 nights as half board, and upgraded to Imperial for the last 3. The 18th floor is for club guests anyway, so did'nt have to change rooms. It is definitely worth talking to an experienced receptionist when it comes to upgrading. We asked a trainee for the price and said it would cost 720 dhms per night, so, for 3 nights would be 2100 dhms. approx £385. When we asked the experienced person the next day, he said that seeing as we had already paid for our breakfasts we did'nt need to pay the 720 per night but only needed to pay 480. So 480 times 3 = 1440 Approx £257. A saving of £129. So check on who your talking to!
Taxis etc..... They have hotel cars, a hotel shuttle and private taxis. the latter is the cheapest, even though they go around the world to get there. The shuttle goes to all the malls around Dubai city. It took us nearly 2 hours to get to the Khaliffe tower by shuttle and only 20 mins to get back in a taxi !!!
Khaliffe tower is worth going to, but you need to book it 30 days in advance to make sure you get in. Or, you can wait in the queue and pay double what you would pay on the Internet.
Burg Al Arab..... Again, e-mail them to make a reservation, give them your card details to make sure you turn up. Expensive, You need to spend a minimum of £80, which is quite easy. We mentioned it was our anniversary in the email, and the head waiter brought us a lovely cake and a red rose for my wife. Fantastic. They have a queueing system if you want to sit by the window overlooking the city, we waited about 15 mins.
With the recession still here, the Palm is'nt finished yet. They still have 5 branches to build on.
Aqua park.... Lockers are 40 drhms per day. You can leave the park and return later if you wish. Leap of Faith is brilliant, Ziggurat rides are very good too, but the torrent ride is quite tame. I would recommend that you purchase some goggles and a nose clip. Well worth £3 from ebay. Drinks at the park are dear. A cola etc is 15 dhms, about £3. If you buy a souvenir plastic cup for 40 dhms (£8) you can get unlimited refills for 5 dhms each (80p)
Lastly the food. quite a good selection, very nice, BUT, It never changed. Apart from on themed nights when there is a very slight difference!
Sorry it's a bit long, but if this helps at least one person, I've not wasted my time.
Have a great time here, We certainly did.. Any Questions you may have, please email me via Trip advisor
