“First Class & Pricey”
Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 5 nights and found the hotel and the staff. The hotel is new and is still very shiny. The staff were first class and even brought a birthday cake to our room for my husband they obviously got this information from his passport and I thought that this was a nice touch and shows how much they go over and above. The buffet breakfast was outstanding in both terms of quality and choice. The pool area is beautiful and there was plenty of loungers ad towels. There was also a polite notice to guests asking them not to "book" loungers by leaving their belongings which I think was a good idea. If I had one complaint this would be the fact that I booked a deal for free half board, but when you get there you are told that you only get 150 AED per person per day and this can only be used at certain restaurants. This amount is not even enough to buy lunch so thought this was a bit of a con. However this is only a small complaint, and the quality of the hotel made up for this. I suppose I should have read the small print more carefully. This chain should be very proud of this addition to their family and congratulations to the staff, you made our trip very special.

The hotel is new, clean and nicely decorated. The food is just OK and do not worth it's money. The stuff is nice and helpful. The beach is really poor, just about 20 meters line and 10 meters wide. The swimming pool is also very small. Main advantage of the swimming facilities is almost absence of people around. We were choosing between Atlantiis and Sofitel, and decide to stay in the last one because of its design. Unfortunately there is noting else behind it.

Room Tip: Luxury room with the sea view was mostly on the parking, be careful with it

I recently did an educational trip to Dubai and visited 6 hotels. I stayed at this stunning hotel for 3 days. Having only opened on 1st July 2013, the property is brand spanking new and offers a Polynesian island theme the is cool, modern, chic, contemporary, luxurious with hospitality that is unrivalled. My luxury Palm view room was very spacious with a stunning bathroom with an oversized bath and separate rain shower. The pool area was just stunning and has direct access to its own private beach. The staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Where do I begin with the food, it is just magnificent, I recommend the tiger prawns and calamari at the Manava restaurant.
This hotel is excellent for couples, families or friends. The hotel never felt full even though occupancy was very high. For families there is a kids club for 4 - 12 year olds. There is also a babysitting service.
I loved the location of this hotel, you are never more than 30 mins from any of the entertainment venues or shopping malls. Visit the waterpark at Atlantis the Palm (5 mins away) makes for a great day out :)

Room Tip: Ask for a Palm or Pool View on the 3rd floor

Although this hotel is another lovely addition to the many 5* Hotels in Dubai, i felt there was something missing compared to other hotels i have stayed in, both in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The rooms are great, views are nice from both sides, amazing gym facilities and the grounds of the hotel are very pleasant.
However, the swimming pools are almost unusable due to the freezing temperature of the water, there is a huge lagoon type pool which at one point was empty and 5 couples were squeezed into the jacuzzi area as this was the only warm part of the pool.
They say there are 11 pools within the grounds, but i couldn't find them all, mostly catering for children, but even so they were too cold to use.
We were told by a lifeguard that there was a large jacuzzi within the spa that was warmer, but were told we would have to pay 250 aed a day to use it, even though we were paying hotel guests.
The beach area is pleasant but no where near as nice as others on the palm, such as Jumeirah Zabeel Saray.
Also, unfortunately for us, there were many jelly fish in the water and people were coming out with stings, therefore it was not possible to use the pool nor the sea!
The staff were friendly enough but again, there just seemed to be a little something missing in the warmth and hospitality i have encountered in other hotels in the area.
As in other reviews, the service needs to be improved, i had to ask on several occassions for things to be done, which were not so in the end i gave up.

Room Tip: Luxury sea view rooms, face out onto the courtyard/main entrance to the hotel. If you want sea view...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your comments on tripadvisor following you stay at Sofitel The Palm Dubai.

I am happy to read that you found our rooms great, our gym facilities amazing and the grounds of the hotel very pleasant.

On regards of the water temperature in all of our pools, you will be pleased to know that this is daily monitorized by our engineering and recreation departments to ensure 28-29 degrees at all times.
I believe that the sensation of cold is due to the big difference of temperature between outside and inside the water and the elevated humidity percentage over this period.

Your points of improvement concerning our service are highly appreciated and will be discussed in depth with our management to better serve our valuable guests in the future.

Once again I would like to thank you for your coments on behalf of all of my team.
We look forward to welcome you back in our hotel.

We regularly stay with Sofitel and visited Dubai before on a number of occasions so we were looking forward to spending 10 nights at the newly opened Sofitel The Palm. As others mentioned the hotel is still in the soft opening and we were aware of that. Most of the restaurants and facilities were open (end September) but we could still hear regular hammering and drilling both in the room and at the pool.

If we could give 3,5 points this would be our overall rating of the property, but because the staff is really trying hard we feel 4 points can still be justified.

Some of the pros:

- Excellent design, airy and tasteful; not too big for Dubai standards. A typical, elegant beach resort with all facilities one would expect from a solid five-star hotel.
- Wonderful rooms, spacious, nicely appointed, great beds (as usual with Sofitel). We recommend to choose one of those facing the Palm but note that some rooms on the lower floors have partially obstructed views due to other buildings in front of them (beach restaurant and beach villa).
- Very friendly and helpful staff; this is the biggest plus of the hotel. Yes, they were still struggling at times but are trying very hard. All wishes and requests were dealt with promptly and efficiently.
- Generally nice restaurants, with good food but pricey. Halfboard can only be taken in the main (buffet) restaurant Manava; there is an allowance of 150 Dirham if you wish to dine in the other restaurants but this doesn't take you far.
- Several nice pools, good layout, green (surprisingly mature) gardens.
- Efficient Lexus car service available to take you in town and back; only slightly more expensive than regular taxis and very reliable/comfortable.
- Newly opened, elegant nightclub

And the cons:

- Guest structure not exactly what we had expected. Many guests from Russia, many families with small kids. Dress code in the Manava restaurant was not enforced, guests were dining in shorts and sandals which didn't seem appropriate.
- Long lines in front of Manava for breakfast, especially during weekends. Staff couldn't cope, guests were seated while tables had not been cleaned yet etc. Things improved during our stay, but especially breakfast was rather hectic and not really pleasant.
- Pool chairs and cabanas were reserved from morning onwards which was a real nuisance; the hotel stopped this at the end of our stay but until then we were struggling to find a place in the shade.
- Large parts of the beach closed due to jellyfish; this is seasonal but they removed the nets that had protected part of the beach for cleaning purposes without replacing them - which resulted in several, rather unpleasant encounters.
- Accounting system difficult to understand and not really transparent. We had settled our invoice the evening before due to a very early departure only to find that additional taxes had been added the next morning. It turned out that it was a mistake in the system but it spoilt our last impression.

So... would we return? Possibly, as we feel that in a few months time this will be a wonderful beach resort with great staff. But currently they are not quite there yet.

Room Tip: Choose palm view and one of the higher floors

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at this hotel. Its smart and chic and located right on the beach. The rooms are large and well designed with comfortable beds, amazing bathrooms and dressing room. Our room overlooked the sea and we could see the sun set from our balcony. The lobby was truly amazing with vertical wall gardens throughout the lobby. It was a beautiful sight. The service is what you would expect from a 5-star hotel especially around the pool. Not so impressed with reception area though. It needs a bigger presence in such a large lobby. Its tucked away in a small corner of a very large lobby and guests crowd around that area making it look a little chaotic at times. Other than that it is a perfect getaway for a luxurious holiday or a chill out weekend.

Room Tip: This hotel is a 30-35 minute taxi ride from the heart of Dubai. You need to book a taxi in advance...

We are annual visitors to Dubai and have stayed in some wonderful hotels along the beach so we thought we'd try the palm this time as we are familiar with Sofitel hotels. We were celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary.

First impressions are the hotel is aesthetically very pleasing! It's modern, luxurious and airy feel seems reflect the natural environment from the vertical garden in the lobby to the sound of water flowing around the hotels grounds.

We were in a palm luxury room which again continued the modern theme. It was large and contemporary yet comfortable and the bathroom perfect for a couple. Lanvin amenities were lovely. It was very clean!

It was all very impressive but what we loved most was that the staff simply could not do enough for you. They work very hard, especially the staff around the pool who are in the unforgiving heat all day long. It is a big resort with 11 pools around the grounds so there are many people to cater to when the hotel is at capacity. A little more variety in the pool menu would be great and abit more practice making cocktails as they are not cheap so you want them to taste as they should!

The food was a different story. We had issues with The Manava (buffet) restaurant which basically could not seem to deliver consistantly hot food! Our first evening there I ate lukewarm rice and fish! A recipe for disaster. When I brought this to the attention of the staff they seemed to rectify the problem. However, 10 mins later the food was still cold!!! I would like to say thank you to Anil the restaurant manager who was always at hand. An asset to the hotel when dealing with the many issues we had.

The Porterhouse restaurant was pretty superb if you are HB you have an allowance of 150 dirhams each, don't expect this to go very far though. We dined here often during our 6 night stay as we gave up on the Manava restaurant.

The So Spa is a must. We pre-booked a couples massage in an outdoor cabana which was so wonderful we both fell asleep during our treatment!

To conclude this review everything is in place to deliver extremely high standards of hospitality. There are teething problems, the food seriously needs to be better, breakfast and dinner in the Manava retaurant were mediocre in comparison to the standard of food in the other hotels in Dubai we have stayed at. Once this is rectified, I think anyone who stays here will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Palm views look out to the sea and main pool area.
