We can't assert this is the best value in Luang Prabang (We didn't try other places) but the two times we came, rooms were clean, cosy and cheap. A good place to stay for a couple a bit on a budget, and who want to keep the crowd away and enjoy the riverfront and Wat Xieng Thong (going early in the morning or late at the evening to enjoy the place without other tourists and without paying the fee)

What a great time not to be flagged down by tuktuk drivers and touts. You walk a bit to join the center but I would say : to spend 10 minutes walking into old town Luang Prabang, there is much worse to experience.

The owner asks you everyday what are your plans but when she helped, her prices and services were ok. Anyway, never rent a motorbike in Luang Prabang as nearly every motorbikes come from the same place and the shop is reported as a scam. Correct breakfast and free bananas all day long.

This place was recommended by a friend. Location superb.
Our room was cheap & ok for what we paid.
Quiet environment. Close to Tamarind our favourite eating spot. Great to view monks receiving alms @6.15am
Lady who runs this location was certainly not rude & our room was never entered by anyone but us for the 3 nights we stayed there

We stayed there for four nights, at the beggining it was good, our room was clean except the bathroom (hair in the walls) but we payed 40,000 kip so we weren't expecting a great luxury.

The real problem was the woman, one of the owners. Sincce it was low season she wanted us to buy all the tours, minivans, treks, erx from her. And she charges so much money, more than double! There was not one time when we arrived or left the guestahouse she was asking where were we going or what we weredoing the next day and wanted us to pay the transport/activities/food with her. At the end I told her very politely to stop asking because we were not going to buy anything with her because it was too expensive and we were on a budget. She then said she could lower the prices just a little. Very annoying!! She gives out free bananas but always rotten...

Maybe it was bad luck but if you can avoid it do

The rooms here are simple but nice; a few even have good views of the Mekong. Nammavong's biggest sell, though, is its location. Luang Prabang is a fantastic city, but, sometimes, - at the very least, in the city center - it can feel like there are more foreigners than there are locals, which, in my opinion, is a huge negative. But out by Nammavong, maybe a 10-15 minute walk from the city proper, things feel more "local". You don't have to deal with the swarms of tourists, and it's easier to enjoy the laidback charm that makes visiting Laos so great. What's more, the Guesthouse is just across the street from one of Laos's best temples - Wat Xieng Thong. There are also a couple of other very, very nice temples nearby. All the temples and the relative absence of tourists also makes it easier to enjoy the baci ceremony in the morning, as the monks parade through town collecting alms. Also, just up the street from the Guesthouse is Tum Tum Cheng. Be sure to drop by. They serve great spring rolls. Their papaya salad is also awesome. Overall, I think Nammavong is definitely worth it. The rooms are simple but cheap, and the location is great. Regarding the staff, they were always incredibly helpful and always very nice. The whole family is stellar. I never had any issues with theft, either. In fact, I left all my possessions in my room, unattended, for 3 days, when I made a quick trip to Phonsavan to visit a few of the Jar Sites. Upon returning, my room was just as I'd left it.

We have been surprised by reading the previous reviews of this guesthouse, perhaps we just got lucky? We always take our critical valuables with us, but electronic devices (laptops, kindles) stay in the room in locked compartments of our bags.

We got dropped at Nammavong as it was obviously a friend of the van driver that delivered us from Vang Vieng. We decided to have a look at the rooms as they were very cheap from what we'd read about LP (50000K fan double/twin with hot shower and tv). The rooms were clean and pleasant enough so we agreed to stay for a night. We ended up staying 7 nights, as the room was sufficient and the staff were extremely pleasant, particularly the main woman working the reception. She makes a mean omelette (No. 3 + cheese is the winner) and was helpful in providing information about sights/travel while never insisting that you buy through her.

Bed and pillow weren't amazing but that is the norm throughout SE Asia. As others have said there is a bit of a walk to the 'city' centre but this probably adds to the quiet nights.

In summary, I would suggest being careful given 3 of the previous reviews had theft issues, but we had a most pleasant stay and no such issues!

Do not stay at Nammavong Guesthouse Luang Prabang, Laos. We were lured in from the slow boat with the promise of a decent room at a cheap cost. The room itself was acceptable and at only 50,000kip it was a fair price. It is a family run business so we did not expect money from our room to go missing. We had 50GBP stolen from our room when we went out for the day sight seeing. When we confronted the staff they denied all knowledge of the incident and became quite angry that we had even asked. One of the staff members even asked us to sign a piece of paper saying that we would not go to the police when we threatened to do so. All in all you must avoid this place.

We found Nammavong Guesthouse to be a great location for our time in Luang Prabang, it was a great price and we enjoyed that it was a little bit outside of the center (like a 5-10min walk). It was close to many of the temples, which was awesome for the early mornings watching the monks collect their rice, and I enjoyed that it was quiet and quite empty. We found the people very friendly and helpful and also loved the cheap bike rental. The room itself was pretty small and some days they had the air con turned off (we didn't pay for air con so I understood why it was off, but also some days it was on) and the bathroom wasn't the greatest. It was pretty small overall for two people. I wouldn't recommend it for the most romantic place for couples, but I would say for backpackers or budget travelers, it's a great choice!
