I exchanged emails with the hotel and booked at $40 a night for a double room at front of hotel with balcony. I was happy with this price although as this was our first trip to Luang Prabang I can't comment on value for money compared to other guesthouses. We had no problem with price changing as reported by a previous poster.

The room was large and very clean, with towels and bedding changed daily. There were also two bathrobes hanging in the wardrobe. Coffee, Tea and water were available 24hrs from next to reception, also two bottles of drinking water were placed in the room each day.

The location is superb, we had room 7 which is on the corner of the building giving a great view of Wat Sene, we spent many an hour sitting on the balcony watching the novice monks going about their daily routine. At the time we were there they were building a boat from bamboo and it was fascinating to see them figure out how to do this. It was also amusing to see the antics of teenage boys - the same all over the world - they look so innocent in their orange robes but underneath they are typical young boys!

The staff are very friendly, particualy Bountavey on reception.

I would definitely recommend Senesouk if it's within your budget, it has everything that is needed for a short stay.

We had to leave the Apsara as they were fully booked after our 2 nights there so walked a few hundred yards to the Senesouk.

I'd called first and asked if it still $35 as on the website; he took a while to think and said it was now $60. As it was raining hard we had a look.
Quite a spacious room, air con, TV, shower, fridge...comfy but pricey for $60 with no breakfast included - just tea and coffee to make in a common room and in reception.

There is a hotel safe in recepetion...your valuables are sealed in an envelope, your name written on it and put in the safe with everybody elses.

The location (opposite a temple) is ideal for the early morning alms rounds by the monks. Definately worth getting up for and experiencing.

Also, a few minutes walk to all the cafes and shops.

The guys who work there are helpful and friendly, and booked us a tuk-tuk driver to take us to the Kuangsi waterfall.

The power and water were off on our last morning so couldn't shower before flying, but that could've been due to some local (quiet) building work.

Luang Prabang is a popular place, and room rates are going up quite fast so I was happy with the US$35 a night rate for a double room at the Senesouk Guesthouse.

Things I liked - the driver at the airport ready to meet us. However, it wasn't a car or taxi, but a large tuk tuk! Still a good start.

Check in was very quick - infact there was no form filling at all - just straight up to the room. The room was quite big, with double bed, fridge with free bottled water, air con, TV with some cable channels such as BBC and a movie channel, plus Thai ones showing UK football and a double bed. I had an upstairs room (number 12) which is at the front and shares a balcony with other rooms. While it is one balcony, the space between rooms is separated by plants, and you have your own outside chairs and small table.

The bathroom had hot water and an ok shower, although it is Thai / Laos style - in that the floor is flooded everytime you shower. While there was a shower curtain it was probably at least a year old and needed replacing.

While the room was generally fine, and there was daily cleaning, new water bottles and fresh towels, the whole place could have done with a good dusting!

What I liked about the place was the balcony and being able to watch life go by. The place is on the main road, but the town is still not that noisy, and you are about 10 minutes walk from the main shops and restaurants. There is also free coffee in reception.

One small problem when I checked out. They tried to charge me US$40 a night saying the room rate had gone up. I had an email from them confirming US$35 a night so they agreed to that price.

I would stay again, although there are plenty of options in town.
