“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2014

We had a ground floor room at the back so our room was quiet in the morning, the whole area was quiet in the evening. It is a little away from the main street but that meant we had a nice meander in to town by different routes each time. They didn't speak much English on reception but there are so many places selling tours in town we were able to do everything we wanted during our stay.

I stayed at the hotel five years ago and returned because I was quite satisfied. The place really deteriorated: Below-average staff at reception not really willing to help clients, dark and worn rooms with a strange lao-chinese mix of styles.
Generally o.k. but not for this price - there are definitely options with better value for money in town.
When it came to paying the bill we had lengthy discussions on which exchange rate to apply converting USD to LAK or THB - completely unnecessary and not acceptable that the hotel wants to make money with unfair exchange rates.

A guesthouse on the main drag but with somewhat more acceptable prices. The rooms are not bad at all; the ones in the back building don’t have much of a view. Bathrooms are fine, everything is clean. There are no services offered such as breakfast or drinks but everything can be had around within a few meters. (forget about drinking the complimentary coffee in the lobby.) The rear building doesn't have Wifi, which they lied about when I checked in. The front desk people are not the friendliest you have ever encountered in the hospitality business but OK. English is spoken. And yes, the mattresses are hard.

Room Tip: I personally wouldn't get one of the four rooms off the lobby, for obvious reasons.

After staying in other hotel in town, we changed to Villa Senesouk after searching a bit. We got a good price (45 USD) for a double room with balcony, which faces one of the temples and the main road...

Room is simple, but ok. AC, TV (with international channels), free water... There were also a fridge (which was really noisy, much more than the ac), and the hardest bed of all Laos!!! (and this was one of our last hotels after two weeks in the country).

But the best thing was the balcony... In the early morning you could watch the Morning Alms from it... which was nice, but would have been better if that wasn't the place that all the touroperators left the tourist to make offers (that involves lots of car noises, loud people, shouting tourists.... )... Well, have to say that in the three nights we spend there, that happened really in the first one...
The other two we decided to walk a bit away (five minutes) and wait for the monks in our onw, in silence and with not many people around...

What really was a nice discover was the afternoon pray... In the sunset, all the monks of all the temples around, go to the temple to pray, which involves lots of singing prays... It is so beautiful and relaxing, that I would compare it to the spiritual feeling of the morning alms...

The guys in the reception are nice, but a bit disorganisated. We had payed for the first night when we made our booking the previous day, and when we checked out they didn't know it and they showed us a bill for three full nights,... It wasn't really a big problem cause somewhere, they had our reservation with the payment we had made and they found it, but everything is a bit strange... (i think it is cause they are not very professional...).

I would recommend the hotel... Price is good, room is good, bed is hard (that is the worst thing) and balcony is heaven!!

Room Tip: Rooms in first floor with balcony facing the temple are heaven!!

Stayed here for 3 nights right in front of Wat Sensoukaram temple which at dawn comes alive when the monks walk along collecting food. So the balcony to my room was a great touch to watch the procession. The rooms were clean, good bathroom and although the bed was a bit hard was a nice hotel. Breakfast was not included but there were many options for food. You were encouraged to take your shoes off before entering but not compulsory which shows how clean this place is. Guests also had to be back no later than midnight but there was no problem as everything was closed by 11:30. At $40 US dollars or 50 for the more expensive rooms was well worth it if not just for the procession of the monks.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor opposite the temples have a good vantage point for the procession of the mo...

We arrived here using the Vientiane bus and arrived at about midnight and were quite worried seeing the lights off. Fortunately we were able to wake someone who despite losing our booking allowed us to get balcony room straight away - we had booked months ago and it appeared it was originally written in pencil and had rubbed out unfortunately. The room was cosy and had creepy love heart pillows but we found the beds comfortable and woke up early to see the alms ceremony. If you are in any way interested in taking part in the ceremony or watching from an obscured vantage point this hotel is highly recommended. Before check out we showed our confirmation email and everything was sorted out fine. We found the location good for exploring the markets and seeing Luang Prabang in general.

I rated this place poor, since a hotel is primarily for sleeping, and in the Villa Senesouk we had big problems with that. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms in the front.
The biggest problem was that the bed was so hard, I almost thought they forgot to put a mattress in. We were so uncomfortable, we woke many times a night. We liked the balcony for reading a book after strolling to the town (the location of the hotel is very good, near all the sights), and it was excellent for viewing the alms giving ceremony at a respectful distance, but the location of our room also meant noise from 4 in the morning (gongs, tourists, rice sellers and drums...). We stayed three nights, so we didn't want to wake up every morning. Perhaps a quieter room in the back would have suited us better and would not have requiered earplugs.
The hotel looks nice and the room is nicely decorated and clean, but small. The bathroom is okay. The staffs English is very poor, they are not very helpful and rather watch Lao an Thai soaps on television than pay attention to their guests.
We would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't pick a room in the front if you're staying more than one night and make sure the mattr...
