“Tripadvisor didnt let us down - loved it.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2008

My wife and i just spent a fantastic 7 days at the lotus villa and we loved it. If your idea of the latest in hotel comfort is a fridge, a kettle, a thousand tv staions and a dvd player this probably wont be the right choice for you. On the other hand if you want to get away from the characterless concrete boxes that are so popular in most of asia and if any of the following means something to you: boutique modern french colonial design, good build quality, family run, attention to detail, hot baguettes with home made tamarind jam, freshly squeezed juice with no sugar then you will probably love it and Luang Prabang. I have travelled extensively in SE Asia and Luang Prabang is unspoilt and a real jewel in the crown - get there before word gets out and its unique old world charm is lost to the concrete jungle and tourist buses....

We just spent 5 great nights at this little hotel located on a quiet street and yet close to everything:temples,Mekong River,Nam Khan River, night market, museum ....
The owners and staff went out of their way to make the guests
feel welcome without being overwhelming. The breakfasts were delicious , the room was simply chic and thoughtfully designed. We chose to have kow soy, a typical Laotian noddle soup for breakfast and absolutely loved it. Strongly recommend it.

We were booked for 4 nights but add another night after spending a very disappointing stay at Kamu Lodge ( a real rip off).
The staff helped us book tuk tuk, van for sightseeing, bikes to ride around town and is always there when you need something.
Would like to go back to spend more time in Luang Prabang
and will definitely stay at the Lotus Villa Hotel

Just stayed at Lotus Villas and their website does not do this hotel justice. The staff were amazingly friendly and very welcoming, the hotel is spotless, new and in the perfect location.

It is one street away from Luang Prabangs main street which is the heart of the city and full of restuarants and shops. The hotel is on the main street for the Laos monk 'tak bak' or morning alms procession and they pass right outside the front door at 6am. The mekong river is also just around the corner. Everything is in easy walking distance. There is no tv if that bothers you but the rooms are large and pretty with air con. We had breakfast every morning in the garden although you can eat on your balcony if you prefer.

Luang Prabang is a beatiful town, very peaceful and picturesque. It is a unesco heritage town with a french influence. I can highly recommend Tamarind Cafe on the same street for a delicious Laos meal. Also did a trip to Vientiane but Luang Prabang wins hands down for atmosphere, amenities, friendliness etc. Will definitely go back to this hotel.

  • Liked — The location. Everything was right on the doorstep.
  • Disliked — The town does have regular power cuts so no electricty sometimes. But what can you do?

Clean, friendly, offered great advice, and helped booking trips. Went above and beyond. Would go again. They were full the first night I was up there, they recommended a wonderful place just up the street for one night. Will go back again.

Most of the other reviews have said it all. This charming guest house is so relaxing and very friendly. I found its situation ideal and in a quiet part of the small town close to both rivers and also restaurants such as Elephant, Tamarind and 3 Nagas. Its also on the monks morning route.

I did not find the rooms particularly small, but facilities for hanging (wire hangers) and laying down items is somewhat limited and the shower was not particularly powerful. However, everywhere is spotlessly clean and well maintained. Beds are fairly hard but comfortable. Soaps are in the process of being improved.

Breakfasts taken in the garden or on ones terrace/balcony are excellent – great fruit and freshly prepared juices in particular. Staff and owners are all very friendly and receptive and nothing seems too much trouble. It’s a great place for relaxing and chatting to other guests. Free WiFi plus 2 guest computers at reception.
Great value and worth staying at least 3 days and ideally more so one can soak up the atmosphere of this delightful and relaxing town.

This hotel is on a nice quiet street. We had a lotus room, which was on the second floor and was somewhat small with the only places to set things down were the small nightstands and the counter by the sink, which was in the actual room, not in the bathroom. The bathroom had an open, wet shower. When we arrived, we were given a fruit smoothie and checked in quickly. The staff here is super friendly and the management was extremely helpful. They loaned umbrellas the rainy days (get yours early though!) and the Australian owner was helpful in giving restaurant tips and we enjoyed chatting with him about Luang Prabang and our daily plans. The breakfast was great, your choice of 4 different egg preparations with fresh fruit, coffee/tea, your juice choice, and a baguette with jam/butter. Breakfast is in the open garden and the day it was raining they served it to us on our balcony. The location was a bit away from the main drag, but nothing is too far to walk to in Luang Prabang and we always felt safe walking, even at night.

There are so many choices in Luang Prabang, it's hard to know what is really good or not. We researched many places and decided on Lotus Villa and were absolutely thrilled with the decision. Located in the middle of everything, but on a quiet street, we found it handy to have a short walk back to the hotel if we wanted a moment of quiet or to enjoy some aircon in the hot, humid SE Asia day.

The rooms are cozy and quiet with excellent aircon and fans. They are also kept very clean. There is hot water in each room (although you may have to fiddle with the sink to get hot water going to the shower), and each room has a small safe available. It's no 5* hotel, but you don't need that in LP. It's a great place to hang out and just relax before heading out for a day of activities or dinner with friends.

The free internet is also really handy to plan the next stop on your trip. And best of all is the amazing breakfast. You won't be disappointed.
