Luang Prabang has many nice hotels and guesthouses to choose from, but you really cannot miss with this one. It is located a short distance away from the sights of the city and its best restaurants. It is well-managed, and the staff are courteous and helpful. The upstairs rooms look out over the morning parade of monks, but the rooms are smaller. They are not cramped, however. The downstairs rooms face the internal courtyard, which is where breakfast is served and which is a lovely place to sit in the afternoon and have a cool drink.

Greetings "Leighsscreenname",

Saying that when you come to Luang Prabang "you really cannot miss [Lotus Villa]" is a truly wonderful compliment. Thank you!

You've covered some very useful points for Trip Advisor readers - location, staff and the room you stayed in. In particular, the Lotus rooms (the room type that looks out over where the monks pass by every morning) have a private balcony which looks out into our interior courtyard garden. So you can really enjoy the garden courtyard without having to leave your room, if you wish.

Thank you again, "Leighsscreenname", and if you ever decide to come back, the garden, the monks passing by, and a private balcony, will all be waiting for you.

With Best Regards
Evelyn

As others have noted, Lotus Villa enjoys an excellent location. We were three women traveling together, so we had a single room and a double room. Both were spotlessly clean, with comfy beds and pillows (this is a rarity in SE Asia..).
There is a tip box at the front desk, and tips are shared by all the staff-this typifies the approach of the General Manager and owners of Lotus Villa-they really do care about their employees, and use all possible opportunities to train and educate. This aspect of Lotus Villa is not announced, nor publicized, they just quietly go about providing an environment that encourages growth and advancement for their Laotian staff.
This is not a "fancy" resort, but it offers all you need for a comfy stay, and you will feel safe here.
And, it is a bonus to know the staff are treated with respect and dignity.
You can stay at a more upscale resort, for sure, but Lotus Villa offers all you need, in an environment that respects and truly care for their staff.
Don't stay anywhere else.

You would be hard pressed to find a more central location that this hotel. Close to temples, the main dining street and one up from the river. The only downside was a few guests smoking in the breakfast area, despite being outdoors it was not pleasant.

The location of the hotel is excellent: within a short distance of the Mekong River, with its many waterfront restaurants, and a few blocks from the Nam Khan River, which is more peaceful. Our large room was comfortable, and although it was facing the street it was very quiet. The staff alerted us to the monks that pass by every morning shortly after 6 a.m. so we had an opportunity to watch the procession quietly and respectfully.
The breakfast is served in the courtyard, with many choices and excellent coffee. The cool morning temperature was greatly improved by the bucket of hot wood coals that the staff placed under our table.
The staff were very helpful, friendly, cheerful and eager to please. We highly recommend Mr. Wat, who not only took us to the Kuang Xi waterfalls that and the Free the Bears sanctuary , but also told us about his and his family's life in Laos. Mr. Wat's knowledge of Laos and his English are excellent and his first-hand account greatly helped our understanding of this beautiful, evolving country. In addition, Mr. Wat volunteered to retrieve one of my husband's left-behind possessions. This really endeared us to him.

We stayed in a twin garden courtyard room at this central comfortable guesthouse for 3 days. Room is decent size, nicely ac, and overlooks the garden courtyard wherea generous hot and cold breakfast is provided and included in the rate. Airport pickup and return is available at a taxi competitive rate and without the hassle. The Wat Xian pagoda is two blocks beyond the hotel near the end of the peninsula and just past it is a comfortable river terrace for viewing the water traffic and having a cold drink on a sizzling afternoon, and another pagoda.. LP is essentially a main pedestrian street with cafes , and pagodas, the palace and diagonal to it the Mt Phios and a small local museum worth visiting.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the 2nd floor fronting the courtyard.

A great location on a quite road between the Nam Khan & Mekong rivers in the Heritage area.
We spent 5 nights here and enjoyed every moment, our very large room, on the ground floor, opened directly onto the lovely garden where an excellent breakfast was served.
The buildings are culturally significant and showcase the beauty of the ancient Lao architecture.
The staff were fantastic, so polite and with a ready smile, all overseen by Evelyn the Canadian Manager who went out of her way to ensure we were happy with all aspects of the place. She in a mine of local information and has many recommendations for interesting visits and restaurants.
There are so many restaurants close by on both riversides and it is only a 10 minute walk to the night market
The hotel helps to sponsor local people in getting started in the tourist trade.
Would certainly stay again on the next visit to Luang Prabang

Room Tip: Larger rooms on ground floor but a little more privacy in the rooms on the first floor

Dear 'Bricodust',

Thank you for taking the time to write!

For those readers who might be wondering, the large ground floor rooms that open out into the garden are our Waterlily rooms, and are a departure from the "usual" hotel room design, with terra cotta floors and - a truly unique touch - a lovely in-room bathtub in a wood-casing. (Privacy screens available on request, of course. And the shower and toilet are separate and fully private.)

A five-day stay really gives a guest the opportunity to test a hotel for consistency in service, facilities, and amenities. We're delighted we passed the test!

And yes, restaurants and cafes abound, moments away. And both rivers - the Nam Khan and the mighty Mekong - moments away as well.

We're so glad you enjoyed all the aspects of your stay with us, Bricodust, and we wish you all the best in all your future travels.

With Best Regards,
Evelyn

In the heart of Luang Prabang's World Heritage area between the Nam Khan and Mekong Rivers. We recently stayed at this relaxing, laid back hotel for 4 nights in a 2nd story double room, the front facing the street where the monks alms procession occurs every morning shortly after 6 am, and a lovely rear balcony overlooking the courtyard where breakfast is served. The room was a little small for two, but the bed was comfortable and the bath was fine ( no shower curtain where the toilet is located). You get used to this setup and was no problem for us. No TV and why come to LP needing one? Once you get into the flow of life here, you do not miss it at all. WIFI is available throughout the hotel. Evelyn, the manager, makes you feel most welcome. Breakfast is adequate with fresh fruit, French toast, eggs any style and home made jams. I would highly recommend this hotel for its value, comfort and ambience and would stay here again!

Room Tip: Do spend extra for the frangipani room on the 2 nd floor and facing the street for the convenience o...

Dear 'travelwise07',

To say that we offer value, comfort and ambiance, is to highlight the aspects of our hotel that we are always trying our best to offer. In particular, as the overall world economy is not what it once was, value for one's travel budget has become more and more important. So we're delighted you felt you received full value during your stay with us.

And you would stay with us again? Thank you!

I'll just close here by noting that the room you are describing - in case readers are wondering - is a Lotus room (not a Frangipani). And unlike many hotels, which take a "cookie-cutter" approach to room design, our room types are quite different from one another, as a visit to our website shows. I can't give your our web address here as Trip Advisor does not allow it. But 'google' will find us, no problem.

Thank you very much for your kind review, 'travelwise07'! It's much appreciated.

With Best Regards,
Evelyn
