This is one of the best guesthouses we have stayed in. The location is great, on the river side and the attached restaurant is delicious. The room was clean and we had the best shower! The owner is super nice and helpful. the only thing missing is a place to put our cloths. Its not the biggest room but the overall value is great.

Beautiful views of the Mekong from the garden restaurant and food and fruit shakes are must if you are staying here. The beds are very comfortable and the hot water pressure feels very good on a cool January night. The location is close to everything yet set in a very quite and peaceful place.

We stumbled across this little gem after arriving in Luang Prabang with no reservation. We were greeted by the excellent manager Eric, and found clean, spacious and very reasonably priced rooms (70,000 Kip for a double). It is located right by the river, 2 minutes around the corner from the night market, close to all the local sights and amenities yet away from all the late night noise. We initially planned to stay 3 nights but were there 5. We then traveled to the north-west of Laos and found ourselves passing back through Luang Prabang again and headed straight for the same place. We were welcomed like old friends by Eric and his friendly, hard working staff. Eric even remembered to provide mugs so we could make our morning coffee as we had done previously-little touches make all the difference! The restaurant which they have recently opened opposite the guesthouse (overlooking the river) provides delicious food and is excellent value. Luang Prabang is a fantastic town, but our trip was made by this guesthouse and the truly outstanding service we received from Eric (when I was struck down by food poisoning just before we left he could not enough to make things more comfortable for us) - I would not hesitate in recommending this guesthouse to backpackers, families, older travellers or even my own mother!!!

We were not happy with our previous guesthouse so we took a walk along the riverside and walked into a few guesthouses. My husband walked into Khem Khong Guesthouse to take a look at the rooms and asked for their rate. We booked a nice clean room for 80,000 Kip per night. We are not sure whether the french man who helped us out is the owner, but he is very helpful and kind. We are still here and staying for another 2 nights. We have an amazing hot shower, and good wifi in our room as opposed to having to be in the lobby.

Good friendly service really does make all the difference and the guesthouse is in a great location in walking distance to the night market. There are several restaurants a long the river to choose from as well.

We highly recommend Khem Khong Guesthouse.

We arrived at Khem Khong not knowing what to expect.. We had just walked off the street.

They advised that the big room, 909, that overlooked the balcony was available. After looking at it we got the price down to $35USD a night and booked it for 3 nights - we ended up staying 6.

The staff were extremely friendly and helped us whenever we asked, although their English is not 100% but we didnt mind as we are in their country afterall.

The restaurant attached to the guesthouse is situated across the seat and serves some great food, both local & western, as well as amazing views over the Mekong.

909 has a nice rustic feel to it, and it large enough to have you space, as well as the balcony being a great spot to have many cold beers watching Luang Prabang & the tourists travel on by.

Cant wait to get back there.

We found this place on the river by accident, and for 100,000 kip it seemed reasonably priced for a room in luang prabang. Staff were friendly, room was clean and hot showers were exellent. Hot water 24hrs a day with good water pressue! Wifi worked pretty well and location is great, right next to the river near some nice riverside bars. Have I mentioned the showers?

This place is an easy walk from the boat landing in Luang Prabang although the local tuk tuk cartel wanted us to pay 30000 kip for the journey!!! At $30 it is not cheap regardless of whether it is in a town as beautiful as Luang Prabang or not. We explained that we wanted to stay three nights, which would have gotten us a discount on all 3 nights. However, because we didn't have the necessary kip to pay for that at check in we ended up paying full price for 2 of the nights with a discount on the 3rd, which did not impress us seeing as we hadn't even gotten our bags up to the room.

On the plus side, the room (number nine, looking out onto the street) was spacious with cable tv, hot water shower, was generally very clean and free from cockroaches etc. Because its beside the river there are a fair few mossies flying around so a little killing spree before going to bed should sort out that problem!

Given the abundance of travel cafe's in Luang Prabangs main thoroughfare (Green discovery are especially good for trekking) don't bother trying to book anything in the hotel, which also has several good outdoor restaurants literally across the road. The road outside is busy in the morning so don't plan any big sleep ins.

If you want something to get you close to the action in Luang Prabang that is walking distance from the boat stop and is clean then this place is a decent choice.
