Just a brief warning with regards to LAO PTM Travel in Luang Prabang. 17th of April we signed up for Elephant Trekking after visiting a few agencies in Luang Prabang. We really wanted to spend some time with the elephants and have a chance to feed/bathe them. We asked the agency several times about it and each time they said yes - of course - this is included.
On top of the trekking (aprox. 2h) the tour included a 2-3h time
at waterfalls - basically it looked like spending a great day from 8.30 till 3 PM.
Now the reality ... The tour started OK - we left Luang Prabang at 8.30 and aprox. 9.00 arrived at the elephants site - a small village in the jungle. The elephant trekking itself was great - 1.5h+ n the elephant including a long walk through the river and then the surrounding jungle. What was our surprise when right after getting off the elephant we were told, that here the tour ends and we will head back to Luang Prabang.
There was no elephant bathing and our complains were totally disregarded. On top of that we were told, that its dry season and the waterfalls we were supposed to go to are dry ...
The whole experience of great trekking suddenly disappeared. After 20 minutes of arguing (i.e. – more talking to a wall than getting any feedback) we gave up and got back to town. In the afternoon we visited the agency, but it was more of the same – sorry, we meant you can swim in the river not waterfalls, etc. etc. etc.
Brief advice for the end – make sure to ask for written tour description if you book your tour and avoid laop ptm travel
