Was very curious about this bamboo bridge before the trip, and finally when I saw it first hand, have to admit I was a bit scared to cross it. On my last day, took a chance and crossed it back and forth and was very proud of myself!
It's worth to cross it when you see the bridge as it only exists during the dry season.
The Nam Khan river and the nature surrounding this bridge is truly breathtaking.
Go experience yourself!
Bamboo bridge built by a local family and only to cross out of the rainy season. Costs a little to cross approx. 5000 kip for a return ticket.
The bridge can only exist in the lowtide season ( nov - aug). You must pay 10.000 Kip (1 euro) for crossing the bridge. The bridge is a bit shaky, but safe to cross. From above and from the bridge you can take some nice pictures.
People say it is not possible to pass it in the rainy season but we did early July and it was fine, the level of the river still far. There is a tiny fee to pay to pass, which is normal because they need to rebuild it every year. It leads to a great restaurant too!
We had to cross the bridge a couple of times to get to a restaurant on the other side. Despite its appearance, it is rather strong and sturdy.
It is taken apart and stored in a nearby forest, and then re-installed a couple of times each year by a family because of the rainy seasons. The 5000 kip fee you pay helps to pay th family’s expenses.
I motorbiked around the rivers and I saw this bamboo bridge. You ONLY can walk over it = NO bikes or motorbikes. I saw one in Cambodia that you can drive over it; bicycles & motorbikes.
