Many comments by trip advisors already explains how good this guest house are so I will not repeat it. Thanks to the location and friendly staffs, I felt like I'm home and even hoped to stay there for many months or many years to come. As free transfer to and from the city center is limited only in the morning and in the evening, you need to walk if you would not like to ride
between the times. First , I took wrong way in the heavy rain and walked for 50 minutes,
If you follow my direction, it may be 25 to 30 minutes.
1.You turn left when you leave there.
2.stay on paved road till you reach the crossing with unpaved road.
3. turn right(if you go on straight which ends up with wide road going to the airport)
4. stay on unpaved road ( you cross a tiny wooden bridge and see many local houses)
5. when you reach e busy street which is the end of unpaved road , you turn right.( if you turn left, you will see a big building or palace like structure of Luang Prabang administration office)
6. in the middle of the route, you may want to see old bridge, then you need to turn right after
you pass a temple but this time you go straight.
continue the wide road till you reach the foot of mount Phousi
if you turn right , you find Lao Lao Garden, The House belgian restaurant)
if you turn left and then right after few minutes, you will go to the city center near post office
(on the way you can see market on your right if you wish).
You can have dinner at the guest house and even there is no such mention in their menu,
you can order Lao Lao (Laotian rice whiskey 50 degree C) as I did at USD1 .

While I stayed there, I tried to learn Lao language and made them laugh several times
due to my wrong use of tone. Anyway I thank everybody there specially Ms. Van.

Room Tip: I recommend 9 rooms facing the river i.e. 201 to 209. The best room would be 203 in the middle from...

Everything in this place is beautiful.
The staff is very friendly and joyful.
The garden near the rooms is very quiet and peaceful.
Free shuttle bus makes it near the city center.
The breakfast was one of the best in our journey.

We chose well when we decided to stay at Thongbay. What a gorgeous and serene place it is - we thought we had arrived in heaven when we turned up, tired, from two days on the Mekong. The rooms are beautifully set out, every bit as lovely as in the photos, and the garden is lush, shady and cool.

It is a bit out of the main old town, too far to walk, but the shuttle bus operates plenty of times a day, and if you're stuck a tuk-tuk costs about 30K kip (a few dollars). After you turn off from the road from town, the road is dirt and rocks - not a smooth ride but it adds to the feeling that you're staying somewhere special. If you want to watch the morning alms-giving, you'll need to get up very early and arrange a way of getting into town.

We booked a river-facing room; the guest house is on the Nam Khan. It was lovely to sit on the verandah watching people fishing and the farming activities of the people across the river. This is where you have your breakfast, but you could also have it delivered to the little pavilion with tables and chairs overlooking the river. By the way, the breakfasts are a treat - generous serves of fruit, bread and whatever you choose from the set menus.

One or two observations that people might want to know: the water pressure is very low because of the tiny hot water heater. The lower the pressure, the warmer your shower. We got used to having a trickle if we wanted a really hot shower. Also - be prepared to hear the bells at about 4.00 am, accompanied by dogs barking, roosters crowing and geese honking. Really though, it is such a lovely place to stay and relax that these small things didn't matter for us. Thank you, wonderful people at Thongbay, for making our stay so good. Recommended!

Room Tip: We loved the river-facing rooms, but the garden rooms looked beautifully located too. They are close...

Everything about Thongbay was peaceful and wonderful. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, the rooms are clean and cozy, and even the location was ideal - slightly outside the main town was nice for the quiet atmosphere but bikes are free and there are regular shuttles to and from time. Bfasts were our favorite - brought right to your bungalow to eat on the porch. We'd definitely recommend!

Room Tip: River view rooms are great but we stayed in a garden view and were just as happy. They also offered...

Thong bay Guesthouse had very unique cabins, some overlooking the Kan River for an extra fee. Cabins were very nice with a beautiful ensuite. Be careful at night going down the steps to the bathroom. Cabins had balconies to which your morning breakfast was delivered, very delightful way to enjoy the beginning of the day. Grounds were beautifully maintained with a deck and tables overlooking the river. Staff at Thongbay were most friendly and helpful. We also went with the staff early one morning to give alms to the monks. As well, a free shuttle bus was provided to downtown and back. Great place to stay.

Room Tip: It might be worth the extra fee to stay overlooking the river.

Our stay at Thongbay Guesthouse was one of the highlights of our trip to Laos and Thailand. We were met at the airport, and then welcomed at the guesthouse with tea and cake by the kindest young man, Neth. The grounds are lushly and meticulously landscaped. Our river bungalow was spacious and comfortable with a wonderful balcony overlooking the river. We spent a lot of time reading on the deck and watching the people tend their crops across the Nam Khan. The ceiling fans kept the room at a pleasant temperature - no need of air conditioning. The shuttle to town was a quick and dependable. I was very happy that we had stayed on the outskirts here rather than in the busy downtown. We usually just caught a tuk-tuk back home whenever we were ready for $5. Each morning a sumptuous breakfast of our choosing was delivered to our room. It was a a large delicious meal so we never ate lunch. There's a restaurant on site and the green curry was one of the best I've had. My husband had a birthday while we were there, and the staff noticed it on his passport and wished him happy birthday in the morning and then brought him a cake in the evening!

Probably the highlight was talking with the kind, gracious staff. The relaxed, peacefulness that emanates from these happy people is a pleasure to experience.

Room Tip: I was happy that we had a river view room!

Staff is warm, patient and always eager to help. We had a river facing bungalow and it was great having breakfast by the river in the outdoors. Rooms are well-maintained and cosy. The breakfast is a delicious combination of baguettes, mixed fruit, juice, coffee/tea and a main course that we choose the night before. Although it's a slightly off from the town centre, they have free shuttle services that take you both ways. A short ride on the bicycle also gets you to town, and is a great way to see the place. Tuktuk rides back to the guesthouse from town are also inexpensive. Would highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone who's visiting Luang Prabang.

Room Tip: River facing bungalows for more zen!!!! It's slightly more expensive but definitely worth it.
