“Lovely Guest House in a lovely setting!”
Reviewed May 29, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here as part of a tour group and, having checked the reviews, I was slightly put off! I should not have been - It was delightful. Very central in the beautiful town of Luang Prabang, I can absolutely see why Travel Indochina, our tour operator, insist on using it! We stayed in one of their guest houses a short walk from the main reception and from breakfast which is served over looking the Mekong! The breakfast was lovely; the staff were really friendly; our room was spacious with a very nice, fully functioning bathroom. We stayed 3 nights and although we did have problems with water availability on 2 mornings after everyone had showered etc, it was not really a huge problem! After a night in Pakbeng the night before this was sheer luxury!!!

we stayed here for 3 nights in April. It was clean, the bed was huge and comfortable and the bathroom was clean with a nice shower and definitely a door! We liked sitting on the balcony watching the world go by. Which as it's close to everything was a great way to relax. Breakfast with a view of the river was good and on the day it rained the covered courtyard was a good substitute.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the front with a balcony

Hotel very clean with good breakfast at riverside restaurant. Staff Friendly and helpful. Easy to walk to main street, night market and National Museum.... Faults - no WiFi in room only in reception area and restaurant, no mini-refrigerator, you have to live out of your suitcase as only 6 coat hangers and no where else to put clothes or travel items. Room on small side but not a problem. Many different style rooms so hard to make an overall judgement. Bath room o.k. with nice hot water.

I was searching for a room for three persons and had diffculty choosing as we had an older traveler. While I enjoyed the look of this hotel, I was dismayed at some of the same points people made here.

We had a room on the side of the main building, so technically the villa, which I was told was the only room type which could accomodate an extra bed. However the room was so small, it litterally just had two beds, with a foot between the two. The extra bed also wasn't really a bed, it seemed like a lounge.

I was also disapointed as I also saw the rooms being advertised for $50 USD per night, and I paid a LOT more than that. I believe they put up the signs for nights they had too many extra rooms, however one would think that if you are pre-booking, you would get the better rate? It honestly tempted us to want to check out and re-check-in for the special.

Overall, I only booked for 2 out of 4 nights of our time in Luang Prabang and that was a great decision. There are a lot of other cheaper places near by or on the other river. It was just an okay experience and we would not return again.

We arrived here after the long bus journey from Vang Vieng and were greeted with a welcome drink in the main hotel so we could relax for a little while. The hotel is in a great location, opposite the Mekong River and about 5 minutes walk from the main street and night market so it was perfect for us. Our room was a River View Room, which had a little balcony and partial views of the river. It was a little noisy from the traffic, but it was great watching the world go by and we were hidden by some trees. The room was huge, with a queen sized bed and sitting area, as well as a really lovely bathroom. It felt very boutique and had everything you needed, except from a TV! This was a little weird at first, but we soon got used to it and enjoyed just relaxing in the room with a book after exploring the city all day. I found it a really soothing and calming place to stay. The staff were always really helpful, sometimes the language barrier got in the way a little but we always got there and they were always very smiley and polite. The only thing I would say is that we didn't feel that the buffet breakfast was great, there wasn't much choice and it didn't taste very fresh. I ended up eating jam on bread most mornings as even the butter tasted a bit strange. There was a little patisserie a few doors down that did simple breakfasts like coffee and a croissant, or banana pancakes which smelt amazing! So maybe the hotel could do something simple like this. Other than that, I would recommend the hotel for its lovely rooms, location and ambience.

The room is so small you can hardly fit your bags in. The beds are hard as a rock you might at well sleep on the floor. There is rising damp on the walls, there is no toilet door, it's disgusting don't stay there.

A good setting as the views from the riverfront at sunset are wonderful but i think the hotel is resting on its past laurels. The owner and his son received prizes for this hotel's restoration some years ago and they haven't moved on . yes there is free internet but they don't specify when you book if you are in the main hotel or not. We declined the room we were shown as riverside view as it was some walk away from the breakfast site and was on the road-with a scrappy balcony- in all a rather dusty and bleak building. We moved to a "studio" no view but in the main building and clean. The staff were very pleasant but I noticed that the guest books were redundant and the owner spent his time sitting in the dust sheeted breakfast bar-certainly a wasted resource as it would have been pleasant to sit there at sunset with a book and a drink. The breakfasts were only OK as there is plenty of fresh fruit available and bread is delicious in Luang Prabang-the French influence, coffe was dreadful and local tea grim.

Room Tip: Insist that you have front rooms over looking the Mekong upstairs in the main building otherwise boo...
