Description: Dear Customers The Balcony restaurant is CLOSED FOR TRAINING PURPOSES at the moment - thank you all so much for your support. Our training centre is in full time training - for information on the Lanith Passport to Success training program please contact the email address shown A RESTAURANT WITH A CAUSE! The Balcony is a restaurant with a cause. As a social enterprise all of our profits are reinvested into community development by providing access to international standard food and beverage skills training for young Laotians aspiring for a career in the dynamic hospitality and tourism industry. Exposure to a real life culinary environment, coupled with rigorous classroom learning is the backdrop for changing lives. As Laos' leading provider of hospitality and tourism education and training, the Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (Lanith) has operated the Balcony since 2013 as a training restaurant. All staff have been certified by Lanith to deliver service on an international level. These highly motivated locals are eager to exceed your expectations by focusing on every detail and to ensure an unforgettable dining experience. We are just minutes from downtown Luang Prabang, but light years from the tourist hordes. Step into the Balcony's spacious restaurant just moments away from Laos' ancient capital and make yourself comfortable overlooking Nam Dong river and the mountain panorama. Come join us for a memorable dining experience or stay in one of our four guest rooms and help us to make a difference in the local community. Our menu mainstays include signature seasonal dishes based on local ingredients some grown in our herb garden. We also offer a vast line up of top-shelf cocktails and a growing wine list. We pride ourselves on delivering top quality service and train our staff, from waiters to cooks, through our award-winning Passport to Success industry training programme. Come and stay with us! We offer four guest rooms and we also have a meeting room facility. The Balcony is open during the tourism high season from September until April. From May to August we do open for bookings with a minimum of five people - just phone the day before. WE PROVIDE FREE TRANSPORT!

Truly extraordinary food. The buffalo cheeks were as tender and tasty as one could possibly imagine. The students learning here have the best possible instructors to provide examples. The service can be tentative but the smiles and intentions are top quality.

If you love food you have to go here.

I love good food. I mean I looooooove good food. This is Michelin star quality cuisine in Luang Prabang at truly affordable prices. The cook's name is Pit Wanderscheid. Remember this name. I'm sure we'll be hearing from him in the future. He's worked in Michelin starred restaurants and it shows. I also want to compliment the team of trainee cooks and teachers who work with him for their outstanding efforts. I visited the kitchen after the meal and I can assure you that it works to the highest standards. As it is a school, there is the occasional minor glitch with the service, but Veronica Heintz is soon there to straighten everything with a smile.

Don't let the fact that it's not in the town centre discourage you. There are regular shuttles from Café Joma near the post office and if you ring them, they'll even pick you up at your hotel. Absolutely not to be missed.

We've just returned from our Asian trip where one of the stops was Luang Prabang in Laos. By conincidence we're learned about this wonderful restaurant (being in the tuk-tuk we saw an advertisment of this restaurant) and then decidede to give it a try - lucky us we did!!! This is a restaurant with a cause, teaching Laotians how to cook, manage a restaurant, etc. It's managed by Victoria and Pit a very lovely couple. Now to the most important point: the food! This has been just amazing!!!! We've eaten at quite few top restaurants in the world and must say that this has certainlty been one of the best so far!!! And also the staff has been so friendly and sweet, we really did enjoy ourselves a lot that evening!! A big thank you to the whole team and all the best for the future! We really hope, that this restaurant (and its cause) will become known to all tourists that come to Luang Prabang! This shouldn't be missed!!!!!

We stayed four nights at the cosy and restful Lanith centre in Luang Prabang, including New Year's eve. The room and balcony was very comfortable, the breakfasts (served on our balcony) were sumptuous, and Veronica, Pit, and the rest of the staff were outstanding in their welcome and attention to client comfort. The courtesy tuk-tuk service makes it very easy to get to and from the town centre.

Our stay was capped with a memorable New Year's eve dinner...Pit pulled out all the culinary stops....Michelin-standard courses...and they had all the props - sparklers etc - for a most enjoyable night.

Finally, the prices are most reasonable. Lanith at Luang Prabang is a hidden gem!

We learned of this incredible hospitality / cooking school through a leaflet, checked TA and landed in paradise. As others have noted this venue is sponsored by the Government of Luxembourg to train Laotians.... so 2 L's make one A for amazing.

The Balcony will send a tuk-tuk to pick you up at your hotel or anywhere else. The school is just a bit outside of town. We were greeted by the staff-manager/teacher and I was in wonder of how well she has succeeded in teaching the staff to excel and love their work. The service reminded me of great restaurants in Brussels, Burgundy, Alsace and yes... Luxembourg.

The food? If you are in Luang Prabang or within 300 Km and don't try this, then you have a loose screw. Everything was delicious from the "amuse gueules" to the heavenly coconut nest chicken soup, the incredible main course followed by the best and, without doubt, the most beautiful dessert I've ever had and a lovely eau-de-vie. Wow, wow, wow.

Congratulations and thank you to all!
