“Not Worth It”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

As I wrote with Pak Ou, this I don't think this is worth a special trip from Luang Prabang (LP). We went there as part of the Nagi of Mekong trip from Thailand to LP, but if I had made a day-trip, I would have been extremely disappointed. It's a dirty village that I felt was lacking character because they were trying to put on the show for the tourists. (Scorpions in a jar is not a local tradition - tourists love it so they do it.) There was a pretty little temple in the middle that made it a little more enjoyable, but there are better temples all over LP.

If you're thinking about heading here for a day from Luang Prabang on a day trip coupled with the Pak Ou caves, I do not recommend it. Luang Prabang is such an amazing place and there is much more to do than go to a dirty show-village and a modest cave.

“Bottles with snakes, spiders and insects”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

I guess the most interesting sight was to see the whisky bottles being filled not only with 50% of alcoholic liquid but also with snakes, spiders and other insects.

The whisky making operation is small and unfortunately, our tour guides English was very limited so as soon as we asked more details (aside from his 3 min memorized monolog) he could not provide more details. We tasted sip the whisky, bought a small bottle for 10,000 kits ($1.30, makes a great gift for family at home) and moved on passing many shops, which were selling the same things (silk scarves, toys, nik-naks).

“Dirty place with unacceptable prices”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

Whisky village is interresting as producer of Laolao spirit, this time it was in bad quality and worse price. Laolao with snake in, is an good medicament for quicklier peristaltica and cleaning outputs of human organism as well. Better to go to day market and buy there a bottle of rafinery Laolao 10000 kipu each. I will have not reason to go there once more... Be carefull what You drink there!

“Interesting but only if you're en route to Pak Ou”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Wouldn't go out of my way to see this but was interesting and always nice to sample a novel new drink. Obviously some other villages are trying to sell some other stuff and does feel a bit like a well beaten tourist path
