This temple hi above Luang Prabang offers great views of the Luang Prabang area and the Mekong. It is heralded by the local people as the place to watch the sunset, but actually, what you watch most is hordes of other tourists piling in just before the sunset, destroying any feeling of serenity. But if you go up, don't miss to go down (or up) from the backside of the hill - from the Nam Khan River side, as here you will find the most interesting displays of Buddhas.

This is on the river and a small site, go early or late to avoid the masses of tourist. Great setting along the river.

Wow, after a 20 minute climb we got on top of the Mount Phousi. Mind that there's a lot of people watching the sunset.

It is a steep walk up, but the views from Mount Phousi are certainly worthwhile the exercise. You have very fine views of Luang Prabang and the surrounding countryside. The sunset was not crowded at all in September (low seaon). Sunset is also a good time to have a chat with some novice monks, who will be around.

I would climb up there again for the views, but apart from that there is nothing really exciting to see up here.
