Incredibly well situated temple located at the top of a steep hill in the middle of town. Beautiful place to take in the sunset and appreciate the beauty of Luang Prabang and surrounding environment.

The climb up is not that hard and the entrance fee is not that high but the moment u reach to the top and see the dozens of travelers trying to "fight" for a good view point on the sunset comes disappointment. I suggest you'll climb up if you are ready to squeeze and have the dollar to spare.

First I need to say, that the best way to view anything from this magic Hill in Luang Prabang is to gothere in the nice Sunny morning (start at 5.30 AM now) and visit this place in the beutifull time of Sunrise. Landscape with the rest of night fog and first bird songs, thats the reason why to go there at early morning.
In the afternoon I prefere the forgotten way there from some monastery (behind the main street buildings by Travel agencies) to Budha petrified footprint and up to hill. The hill in the evening is everyday full of tired, hot and frustrated travellers, which like make the Photo of the Year and the Wonder is not realised. BUT for the empatic wanderers it is a nice walk and surprised photo of an forest of hands with cameras before Sunset... Explore it!

The easiest ascent is from the eastern slope, the fastest up the steps half-way along Sisavangvong (we did them both) a gate also at the western end.

So after 200 steps and 25,000 kip what do you get? A concrete stupa on a hill top with an overcrowded viewing platform where at least half the vista is obscured by trees. The bits still open can permit a sunset photo over the Mekong or longer shot of town but hoards of Chinese tourists will be jostling you for the same.

Very steep ascent and best avoided between 11-16.00 hours. Bring bug spay.

A good hike to get there, beautiful all-around views of the Mekong and surrounding hills, gorgeous sunset but way too crowded, which detracts from the experience. Better to go up one the one side and come down the other side.
