We stayed in the lovely Apsara Hotel which overlooks the river in the little town of Luang Prabang, Laos while we were travelling in Asia. Although the Hotel is small the rooms are a good size with a large bathroom/shower which also have a small balcony with a view of the river. The Owners are lovely and every morning served a beautiful, if simple breakfast on the ground floor. The breakfast included fresh orange juice, eggs, home-made jam and bread. The Hotel is situated very close to the middle of the town with many Restaurants. At night the streets were turned into outdoor street markets which sold a very wide variety of goods and it was great fun to barter.

Room Tip: Book a superior room which is on the first floor and overlooks the river.

We spent two nights at the Apsara which is nicely situated on the river and within easy walking distance of many of the sites in Luang Prabang. Our room was on the first floor, facing the river with french windows out onto a narrow balcony. The room was a lovely size and pleasantly decorated. Just a couple of niggles - while the bed was comfortable once you were in it we both managed to crack our shins quite painfully on something that felt like a metal ridge round the mattress, and the shower while a good size only operated at a trickle. We only ate breakfast in the hotel as there are so many restaurants to choose from in town, but breakfast was a plentiful mixture of fruit, bread, and a choice of eggs or pancakes. The restaurant is pleasantly situated open to the street and there are tables outside. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the first floor - ground floor rooms are right on the street,

We had a standard room (no. 10) overlooking the river. Stepping out through the French doors, we had a view of the Nam Khan River in front of us and the Tamarind Restaurant next door (the noise wasn't too bad). Charming decor and a large, somewhat dated, bathroom. The linens were excellent but our mattress was a bit saggy, and the pillows were too soft. AC and a fan, but no TV which is fine with us. The wifi router was just outside our door so had good connectivity throughout our six day stay. Breakfast included Western and Lao choices. The room prices ($90 - 120) are probably a tad high for what you get, but you there's no denying that it's a fantastic location.

Stylish hotel with lovely large light and airy rooms, decorated nicely in keeping with the old French colonial style of this riverside building. Great location for strolling round the old town and visiting the nearby wats. Good bathroom with huge bath (with occasional but thankfully brief disruptions to the water supply), comfortable bed with good air conditioning and a ceiling fan. Stayed in an upstairs room above the restaurant with a nice balcony for watching the buzz of the street. A good choice for a relaxing stay in Luang Prabang

Room Tip: Riverside upstairs with a balcony Room 5.
