“Very Nice Hotel except....”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Actually the Satri House is a very nice and special hotel which deserves 5 stars. I took off one star because the pool at the entrance (not the swimming pool) is not clean. In fact, it could have been one of the nicest spots of the hotel, if it was clean. The hotel has a very nice and special structure, consisting of several buildings. Rooms are very nice, staff very helpful. I also suggest that they initiate a buffet breakfast and not ordering from a menue, although the menue is good.

LPB has a lot of beautiful hotels and this is probably the priciest. Within the context of LPB we found it overpriced. Compound of 5-6 buildings is well groomed and matches pretty well with the original building.
Satri House is just outside the bustle of LPB, walking to the night market takes 10 minutes. Free bicycles of good quality.
Forthcoming staff, but the bar is often unattended.
The restaurant is top class, but so are many other restaurants in LPB. However, USD 10 for a glass of white wine can nowhere be found but in Satri. The F&B manager has his pricing wrong there and put us off to explore other restaurants after the first night.
Also the spa is priced over he top. Yes, it is beautifully laid out, but he variable costs of a Lao masseuse does not justify the rates.
Little details are neglected, such as plugs in the washbasin were not replaced, fruitbasket was left to rot.

We spent our 8 nights in an upper floor deluxe room with antiques, shutters and four poster shrouded in a mosquitto net - pretty faultless. This elegant hotel maintains a resonance of its past as a Laos royal residence. The staff were friendly and always helpful. Food was good - tho not exceptional with rather limited breakfast choices for Northern European tastes. It is a good 20min walk into town or an easy and cheap 5mins in a Tuk tuk. For us it proved to be a splendid base from which to explore Luang Prabang - a beautiful, atmospheric and relatively undeveloped town worthy of its World Heritage status.

Room Tip: We stayed in upstairs room 221 which was wonderful.

This location touted themselves as a 5-star hotel but it definitely is not ... maybe 3.5 stars. It is not well marked from the street so can be hard to find. It's on a side street that is not too inviting. If you're looking to stay in town, there are better located places more centrally located. If you're looking for nicer, try the Residence Phou.

The room was average. The bathroom floor collected water when one showered and drained slowly. There was no wifi in the room but there is wifi in common areas.

We did not eat dinner here. Breakfast was nice. The staff was very nice and helpful.

My two old girlfriends and I stayed in a triple-room for five nights at Satri House in late January.
We had begun our big holiday in Laos & Thailand with a not so pleasant hotel-experience in Vientiane, and were slightly "on guard" and trying not to expect too much.
But Satri House was a dream come true!
Everything is perfect (maybe apart from the price of a glass of wine in the bar! :-))
The room was wonderful with a tasteful decor. The surroundings (garden, spa, pool) is absolutely beautiful and well kept. The food in the restaurant (we had breakfast every day and alson dined one evening at the hotel) was some of the best, we had in Luang Pradang. The staff were kind, helpful, smiling - a totally different experience from our "snobbish" Vientiane-adventure.
Satri House is a little piece of heaven - tranquil & lovely - in the middle of wonderful Luang Pradang. One could easily spend more time here. Do it!

A little delayed in my review (we stayed there in November 2012), but just wanted to add my very positive feedback. Satri House was gorgeous and almost perfect in every way; we were however very disappointed and distressed to see that the hotel has an owl chained up in the garden. Otherwise the gardens were lovely (if a little dusty re renovations in progress), the pool fabulous, and the restaurant/food excellent. The room was very lovely and spacious, with wonderful antiques. The spa was also gorgeous but much more expensive than in town. And don't forget to check out the Satri store in town, also on the expensive side, but very high quality merchandise (they also give a small discount to hotel guests).

Room Tip: Junior suites do not have an extra/sitting room. Maybe not worth the extra cost.

I arrived at this lovely hotel drained and tired - the bed was wonderful as indeed was the hotel. it was very quiet and peaceful- I can certainly testify to this having unfortunately to spend the first day of our holiday recovering from a sickness bug. I cannot understand the comments from people claiming to have been disturbed by the petanque players outside the hotel, nor can I understand the comments saying that the hotel is situated too far from the town. It is just a five minute walk down the road!
We had the standard de luxe room which was more than adequate- the bathroom was probably the best we encountered on our holiday.

We would certainly opt to stay here again! Selective Asia organised our holiday for us - the arrangements were superb.
