They get absolutely everything right here, from the attentive personal service to the excellent cuisine. It's so fantastic We stayed here twice in a month. Best tip -- DO come in the off season. The teensy bit of rain is not disruptive at all, you'll have the whole town to yourself and it's much, much cooler.

La Residence is only a couple of years old but you feel that you have stepped back in time - from the moment we were picked up from the airport in the old Mercedes Benz until the sad day of departure. We stayed in a suite - but I believe all of the rooms are a good size. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable (a pillow menu is available), beautiful linens, spacious room, very large bathroom with tub and separate shower - everything you would expect from a top-notch hotel. The restaurant was fabulous - great breakfast choices including French options such as eggs cocotte, to traditional Laotian soup. There were so many wonderful choices for supper and lunch. The burger was one of the best we have ever had (and we have homes in two of the worlds famous beef producing areas - Alberta and Argentina) and they did a fantastic job of other more refined choices. The staff were friendly and attentive. I took a pillow from the lounge to support my back while having a long dinner - afterwards, each time after that - whether having breakfast, supper or a cocktail, the staff would bring me a pillow. The hotel is close to the town - the hotel provides an upscale tuk, can call a taxi, or take one of the hotels many bikes. Some of the bikes were in a little bit of disrepair - but there were many bikes to choose from. We stayed at the hotel for 6 or 7 nights - and felt like family when we left. The pool was very clean and most days we had it to ourselves. There is no gym which would be nice to burn some of the calories on days when it is too hot to hike/ cycle! I would stay here again in a heart beat.

As all of the reviews have stated, this place is excellent with great, large suites which are well appointed. The staff is great, the massages at the spa are very good, the breakfast buffet is also good with eggs cooked to order. A very nice pool adds to the comfort. The only drawback is it is located outside of the downtown area, but a 5-8 minute tuck ride from downtown which is readily available and very inexpensive. The hotel will take you into town and if you want pick you later. You just cannot walk outside the hotel and be in the action of the town; a small sacrifice for staying at such a wonderful place. You must take the hotel (no one else but the hotel) boat ride to the caves. Yes it cost more than getting a booking in town, but it is worth it. A wonderful experience of riding on the Mekong River for 1 ½ to get to the caves. You can even lie down on the bed on the boat, eat lunch (you need to bring it with you) on the dining table, or just relax on the lounge chairs as the boat cruises this river. It is the boat ride, not the caves, that is the real joy.

This is a lovely hotel a little distance from the centre of the city but peaceful. It has a lovely outlook over the hills. The hotel shuttle is available to take you into the town on request during the day and at set times in the evening. This works well.
The rooms are spacious and nicely designed with rosewood furniture, verandahs and a large bathroom. Beds are very comfortable with good pillows. Internet is complimentary and excellent. There are mosquito nets over the beds and an electrical insect repellent is plugged in at nights. Turn down service staff also spray the rooms (and leave some delicious macaroons). We had no problems with mosquitoes.
Breakfast as pretty good - nice range of food. We also had lunch and dinner at the hotel - the food is good if expensive for Laos. The local dishes, especially a salad and a water buffalo stew, were excellent as was the the salad nicoise at lunch.
We visited the spa which is great - local massage recommended. Also went on some trips organised through the hotel - a half day tour of the town with a guide who spoke excellent English, and a trip to a rice farm which was a highlight.
Only negative was no gym. Swimming pool is nice with lovely setting.

While this is not a modern mega-resort with tons of amenities (no gym?), La Residence is a beautiful property with an excellent staff and lots of charm. The hotel was quite empty while we were there, which made it feel like we had the whole place to ourselves.

-Location: a bit far from the old city, but it doesn't matter because they have a free shuttle to take you whenever you want.
- Room: what you would expect from a resort of this caliber. Huge, stylish, comfortable with an awesome shower (although I would have preferred stand-up to tub) and good soaps. We loved the private terrace with chaise lounges and the fruit/macarrons waiting for us every time we came back to the room. Also, lots of precautions against bugs including mosquito nets, sprays, etc.
- Amenities: the infinity pool is stunning and such a relaxing place to spend the day. Service by the pool is attentive and the bar snacks are good and (surprisingly) affordable. The spa is very nice as well, with its own private pool and steam room.
- Food: breakfast was a la carte for us (usually buffet), probably due to the small number of guests. Everything was excellent: fresh fruit, amazing pastries, good options for hot breakfast and the best coffee we found in our month in southeast Asia. We never had dinner at the restaurant, but it looked great too.
- Service: incredibly attentive and personalized service. Staff went out of their way to learn our names and make our stay at La Residence so unforgettable.

Stayed at La Residence Phou Vao for 5 nights between 9th - 13th August and it was my best hotel experience so far. I have been traveling all over the world and very picky about the hotel chain, and adored to the Orient Express and La Residence Phou Vao.
From the moment you enter to the lobby, until you check out, every moment was unique and breathtaking.
The rooms has a beatifull view, and the design is so user friendly and deco makes you feel like at home. The turndown service is great, even though you are surrounded with lots of trees, the hotel takes every precaution and the mosquitos were not exist. Every day they service fruit and macaron complimentary at your room.
The food is great, they make their own bread and yogurt. The breakfast is one of the best, have have gourmet food variety. The dinner is not a miss. Normally I love to experience different restaurants at the city but, we had our 5 night dinner at the hotel, right by the pool. They have local and international food options.
We arranged all our excursion tour through the front desk. They have great options with great service. Dont miss the boat tour. The Hotel boat is worth to experience.
The spa and the pool is great.
The staff, I don' t know how they manage but the entire team is more than welcoming and great. The Hotel Management should give Hotel Management lessons at the universities.
Definitely will go back to Luang Prabang just to stay at this beautiful Hotel.
I would recommended this hotel for everyone, expecially to those who is looking for a significant vacation.
Congrat to the General Manager...

I did not stay at this hotel but visited only the spa. It is perfect by all means. It is not cheap but I liked it so much, visited here a second time. The hotel must be the best in Luang Prabang. Very pleasant premises.
