“Just another street market”
Reviewed March 22, 2014

A typical Asian street market with local craft an souvenirs you can buy this stuff anywhere in Lao but it is on every night so don't by the first time, just shop for prices, and always look at the quality as it will vary more than you think.

“Laos is fantastic”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

One of the absolute highlights of our Laos tour was Luang Prabang. Especially the old quarters. Stunning settings along the Mekong river with a fantastic atmosphere. Heaps of little restaurants and a lot of things to explore. It’s easy and convenient to explore Luang Prabang by foot or bicycle. You are basically close to everything. People are friendly and it’s simply a great place to spend a few days. In fact the whole trip to Laos was fantastic and our agent at Backyard Travel did a fantastic job arranging a private trip for four of us, choosing the destinations, hotels and guides for us. Can’t recommend them enough. We’ve always arranged our trips ourselves in the past but then we had much more time. If only going for a 2-3 week holiday life becomes much easier when you let a good travel agent and we certainly don’t regret our choice.
We stayed in the Satri House, a fantastic, colonial, hold-style hotel which is about 10-15 minutes walk from the old quarters. The hotel is a piece of history in itself (in a good way).

“Never stop discovering !”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

Just stroll around the old quarter, and the more you know it, the more you like it. There are many small lanes, hidden old houses, beautiful temples. And the morning market near Wat Mai is fascinating (go early, it's over by 10 a.m.)

“Living tradition”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

Please do keep a couple of hours aside for walking around the Old Quarter. There are lovely organic restaurants, libraries, bookshops, homes etc. Catch a couple of beers, food and a sniff of the old world.
It gets very hot, so take your cap and sun glasses. If you get tired of rice and eastern food, there are a couple of french bakeries that stock amazing bread, pastries and croissants.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and light cotton clothing

“So Laid-back and enjoyable”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

I can only commend the other 5* reviews, it is a beautiful place, so peaceful with wonderful buildings and views around every corner, well deserving of its World Heritage status.
One of our favourite places around SE Asia having traveled this part of the world for many years.
