Luang Prabang is a lovely city with many inexpensive guest houses and hotels to choose from. There is no reason to stay here, despite its location on the night market. I checked in with 'Lucy' and at first she was very nice but then all she would do is stare at her smartphone and say 'yeah yeah' to any questions I had. I had to ask twice to have my room cleaned and only one time did it happen. I had to ask for toilet paper and for the bathroom bin to be emptied. I alerted Lucy to what must be a broken pipe inside the hotel walls. Little puddles of water were forming in my room she simply answered 'yeah yeah'. I wasn't complaining or even asking for another room. Finally, I made her come in the bathroom to see the water oozing out of the walls.Naturally, now her attention went away from the smartphone.
Still, after asking her twice to clean my room after excursions around town that day, she did not have it cleaned! Even after helping her while most people would have simply demanded another room or their money back, I came back to a filthy room with a fetid smell. For $40 a night in Laos, this is unbelievable. Lucy, is Chinese and most everywhere I have been in China...many places! I have received good hospitality. In this case I would recommend patronizing one of the Lao run establishments.
