A really fun morning out. We organised it through one of the many tour companies on the main road in Luang Prabang. Cost $45 which is the same as booking it direct with them. A bumpy 30 minute ride in a tuk tuk took us from our hotel (at a time we chose) to the river where we got on a very narrow low-lying boat for a 5 minute ride to the base. They kitted us (my boyfriend and I - not sure how big the group size goes up to but it felt very personalised just the two of us) up with harness and helmets then two guides took us up a jungle path that felt a bit like via ferrata. Felt exhausted at the top. Then you proceed along 20 different zip lines across the jungle with beautiful views and adrenalin pumping. One guide always goes first and he took our camera and took loads of photos for us. The second guy checks that you're clipped in safely each time and sends you on your way and the first guy catches you at the other end. Felt really safe even on the vertical drops. At this time of year the waterfall is really low so no opportunities for swimming but the views are still spectacular. Really fun morning.

There are three activities atTad Sae waterfall: swimming or otherwise enjoying the low, terraced waterfalls themselves, elephant riding/feeding, and the ziplines.

The zipline trip is easily arranged through many travel agents in Luang Prabang. We paid US$50 per person for the 30 minute ride to the dock (make sure they will take you in a minivan and not a tuktuk), 5 minute boat ride (boat is narrow, tippy for the less graceful among us), park entrance and simple lunch. There are ~20 ziplines, though 4 are simple vertical drops--exhilarating! A couple of them take you right over the falls. Staff seem quite safety conscious and we were told by an independent source (former competitor) that the lines and equipment are inspected regularly. The 20 ziplines take only about an hour.

For the uninitiated: No real arm strength is necessary for ziplining. You have a helmet and wear a harness that goes over shoulders and between legs, and are clipped in to the lines at chest level. I am over 60 and found it easy. You do need to lift your legs up on landing. One staff member catches you on landing at each platform.
