A little hard to find but well worth the search. We had the lab Lao salad with chicken. My wife is Thai and said it was some of the best lab Lao she has ever had. Packed with flavor with just the right amounts of fresh mint, basil, red onion, bean sprouts and a little red chili to give it some heat. With some steamed rice on the side, hmmmm delicious!

Joy's restaurant is really indescribable. You have to just experience it. Unlike ther restaurants with an agenda or theme, Joy's is one of those places that is truly "local". I've almost never uite our visit of the previous night. She was right! Both the 1st and 2nd night we were there, we told Joy pick our dinners with an emphasis on only Lao and local foods. It was splendid, as was the wine we selected to accompany it.

Joy's restaurant is quite the wonderful experience----excellent food, flavors, and camaraderie. It's almost like eating in Mom's kitchen. DO IT!

This little restaurant is not located on the main street of Luang Prabang but on a side street just off it. The extra effort needed to find it is well worth it. While it is not fancy and only has about 4 tables, you get wonderful home-styled Lao foods. We had the steamed Mekong River Fish cooked with lemongrass and tamarind, fried chicken with lemongrass and Tom Yum Kung (see pic attached). The owner of the restaurant, Joy, speaks good English and we had a good chat with her about our travels. As the restaurant is about a 5mins walk from the Night Market which opens from 17:00 to 22:00, it might be a good idea to do an early dinner and walk of all that wonderful foods at the Night Market!

Well first, I really can not understand the bad reviews. Especially the one that is claiming that there was music coming from the other side of the road, as there are just trees.
The place might be a little bit hidden, but that also adds to the calm atmosphere. I did not get a look inside, as we sat outside but it looked nice with some photographs at the walls.
I ordered a stir fry. I can not exactly remember all the ingredients but there was a lot of good things inside. The taste was phenomenal and the portion huge. A friend got the pumpkin soup, which according to him was great as well.
The prices are kind of cheap and it is definitely not uncommon, that you have to order the rice separately. My dish was 40k I think.
The staff was super friendly as well and we joked with them a bit in the end. Very welcoming place!
Check it out while in Luang Prabang!!!
You will find it very easily, when you ether walk on the river, or the mainroad parallel to it. Then just look for the fountain. If you can see it from the river, that's the road you have to turn in to.

As being this high on tripadvisor, it was not what expected:

- difficult to find
- upon arrival while entering this restaurant the staff was sitting in front of it not really wanting to move. Not very welcoming place.
- the waitress was sweet but didnt speak any english
- the food was fine, though you need to order your rice as an extra since it's not included. (We ordered the masaman curry) This was confusing.
- the price... we think its a bit high for the lack of service and compared to other restaurants in luang prabang.
