Lanterns lit, Mekong in the background, cocktail in hand, attentive staff, wonderful food - what more can you want. This is the best place to eat in Luang Prabang for all of the aforementioned

Wat Xiengthong is also called the Golden City Temple. We first visited this temple around 6 pm so we had to come back the next day since it is open only from 8am to 5pm.

There are many structures within the grounds: monastery, funeral chapel, sim, shrines, pavilions, palace and gardens. We were impressed with the beautiful wood carvings painted in gold on the walls and doors. There is a painting of the Jataka on one of the walls.

Your trip to Luang Prabang is not complete without a visit to Wat Xiengthong.

Excellent service, clean, great location, and large rooms. Highly recommend staying here and dining here as well. The Palace is in a great location to the main areas, so easy to walk to restaurants and town, but at the end of town, so quieter and peaceful.

We sat on the terrace overlooking the Mekong enjoying the most delicious food. The staff were extremely polite and attentive and the chef came out and introduced himself. He gave away some of his culinary secrets to us. A lovely evening.
