My fiance and I stayed here in February 2014 for 4 nights. We loved it. It is extremely clean and the staff were all very helpful. While it is true that some of the staff spoke limited English, they understood everything I asked for even if they didn't respond verbally. I thought that one person hadn't understood my request from the night before, but when I double checked the next morning with the lady who spoke English fluently, it turned out the night person had understood me perfectly and had already written down a note for her.
The bathroom was very clean and didn't smell at all! If you have stayed in Laos long enough, you will find that a lot of places do not have an updated plumbing system, so this was a bonus. Henry, the general manager, was so courteous and always popped over if he overheard a question being asked. The hotel is about two blocks from the night market and is very quiet. I didn't hear any noise from the people upstairs. A pair of older ladies in their 50s who we had met switched to the Sanctuary Hotel based on what they heard from us. Their prior guesthouse was on the main road and they kept getting woken up at 6am by people going to give alms.
The breakfast buffet was pretty substantial. Not sure how much other reviewers are expecting, because it sure beat out the breakfasts I've had at the Westin and the Hilton. Eggs are cooked to order, plus they even made crepes and pho noodles. There were also two kinds of homemade jam, baguettes, yogurt, cereal, muesli, milk, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Plus tea and coffee.
Only suggestion I have is to include a hair dryer in the room. Sounds like another reviewer did have a hair dryer, though, so I probably should've just asked the front desk for one. I also loved it that shampoo, shower gel, and soap were all provided - some places will give you only soap!
