The people that own it as soo nice and are so helpful, nothing is too much!
The walk into town is easy only a ten min walk. They made our beds each day with clean towels. We had a fridge in our room and tv. We booked our bus to Vietnam with them, checked out other places which were the same price.
If I came back I would stay here again.

We stayed at the Liberty Guesthouse in a double private. Luang Prebang is small place so again hotel location is not really an issue as everything is accessible by foot. The guesthouse was about a 10 minute walk into town but about 15 minutes from the main restaurant area. Compared to other accommodation in Laos the Liberty was on the expensive side at US$20 a night but it did show and was definitely a quality budget hotel and didn't have dodgy electrics! Staff where helpful but as we were one of the only people in the hotel we did get a personal service. A nice guesthouse that in our opinion was in an okay location but for some might be too far away from the action.

Quiet location in this busy touristy place - a pity that the vietnamese owners were not very interested in their guests or their new country. I tried to get to move their flip flops at the entrance instead of stumbling over - they never got the message... Sweet but unhappy daughter spending 24hours at the front desk.
Extremly boring never changing breakfast - I spend 1 week there -
would be nice to have some hot water kettle at the open area.

Our family of four stayed for nearly a week in a VERY spacious room with two huge beds. We appreciated the room size, and the beds were comfy. It's not right in the heart of town, but it's an easy walk that we did comfortably many many times. The woman working the front desk was there round-the-clock and she was very sweet and helpful in terms of where to have laundry done, a restaurant on our first night etc.

But beyond that, Liberty was nothing special. Even in this very large there was almost no place to unpack, hang things or put things away. There was no electric kettle in the room -- or coffee or tea in the lobby. The towels were very thin and the whole bathroom was soaking wet after a shower so everything including the towels were damp all the time. And it was quite noisy.

Considering the wide array of guesthouses in Luang Prabang, Liberty seemed overpriced for what it offered -- and it would be easy to step up the level of comfort and service just a little.

Upon an evening arrival (~$7USD taxi ride from the airport) to Liberty Guesthouse, we were greeted by the caretaker at our taxi. A friend and I stayed in a Superior Double Bed Private Ensuite which was right at the front desk. It can be noisy to light sleepers but wasn't very bothersome to hear other guests in the lobby. The workers are very quiet so that wasn't a problem. The bed was actually a king sized bed, there was a small closet and a vanity to place our belongings. There's no safe but the front desk held our passports in a locked drawer (which may not be safe enough for some travelers). The room, sheets and floor were clean. The bathroom was alright. No separate shower space like some other Asian countries but this one's set up seemed more cramped. Even if there was a holder for the showerhead, it soaked the whole bathroom and even somehow leaked outside the door. Other than that, everything was fine. The caretaker was able to change some of our currency and gave us a map with many attractions and options of some waterfall tours we can book with her. Room was made up farily quickly after we left. Location is about 10 mins from the center of the town where all the eateries are and where you can find the night market. There are a few laundry places along the way that can wash 2kg for 7000-8000 kip (about $1USD) and you don't have to go far to observe the monks during their alms giving ceremony at 6am. The town and night market pretty much shuts down by 10-11pm and it is a safe walk home around that time but we were recommended not to be out later than that. The caretakers lock the door around that time also so if you come back later you just have to gently knock, or like us, loudly attempt to open a locked door and someone will open the door for you since they sleep in the lobby. Same goes for the early morning if you want to observe the monks, they will unlock the door for you if you cannot figure out how to quietly unlock it for yourself...

I had a generally pleasant stay at this guesthouse at the beginning of January 2013. Location-wise, it's not especially convenient to the interesting parts of Luang Prabang, but the whole city (more like a big town) is so small you're never really more than 10-15 minutes from anywhere and it's safe to walk around (based on my experience) up until 11 at night or so.

The room itself was pleasant, clean, and had excellent water pressure in the shower. The airconditioning worked well. It was also cleaned daily. Nhung, who worked at the desk, is very kind and helpful. My one complaint is that even though she'd promised to arrange an airport pickup, she didn't, though that wasn't a big deal since the airport van costs exactly the same price. I should also note she organized an extra cheap tuk-tuk to the airport and sells tours for the Kuang Si Falls for about 20% less than the travel agencies. She's also incredibly kind and hardworking.

The reason why I haven't given a higher rating seems to be common to other reviews. First, for what you get and compared to other hostels around town, the price is a little on the high side, especially given the location (I actually paid $20/night for a private room, a reminder to book directly rather than using Hostelworld). Second, the walls are thin, so on my first night alone I was treated both to karaoke until about midnight and then awakened by neighbors welcoming in the New Year in what's say was a very romantic way. Third, it didn't have much in the way of atmosphere, though there are a few tables outside for the complimentary breakfast (if you book directly), I didn't see people hanging out there to the same extent as at other guesthouses/hostels.

Over all, you won't go wrong choosing this place, but you may well be able to do better.

Room Tip: Book directly, NOT with Hostelworld

I stayed here 4 nights, and had mixed feelings. I stayed in a private room for 1 person, and it was $17/night which is expensive. I probably should have moved on, but I didn't feel like packing up my stuff. The girl at the front who was there 24 hours a day was super sweet and let me extend nights as I needed. The internet is pretty decent!

The room is small, but ok, there'a TV, AC, a warm shower, a wardrobe closet. The window looked right out onto the neighbor's house, so there isn't really anything to see.

It was also pretty loud- you could hear everything from the people upstairs peeing (I know, right?) to the owners spitting (it's a SE Asia thing). And everything starts to wake up around 5/5:30am, so earplugs were my best friend.

The location is definitely a few minutes walk to the downtown area, but I felt safe walking at night.
